Basically, can a house release a recruit Friday night before bid day?

If you go to all the parties you were invited to for pref you are guaranteed a bid at one of them.

This is not quite true. To be guaranteed a bid you must put each house where you pref on your card. If you attend more than one pref but don't rank all houses, there is a real possibility of not getting matched; in that case you will go without a bid. If you attend only one pref and put that one on your card you will get that bid.
