DG, KD, and Chi O are the most dependent on in-house connections. If you have a rec from a very active alumni who went to State, you may get past the first day, and then it depends on how you interact with the members each day since no one will already know you. Everyone seems to know someone who didn't have any in-house connections and got in DG, KD, or Chi O, but they probably had a very good rec from an active alumni who went to State (or were a legacy). The other 5 houses are not as rigid when it comes to in-house connections so you should be in good shape there as long as you have good interactions with the members you see when you visit each house.
