legacy

yes! some houses giving bids to legacies automatically if they make it to pref. earlier in the week, it's taken heavily into consideration before making cuts, but some houses value legacies more than others. being a legacy can only help you but the most important thing is a good GPA, being interested in the conversations you're having, and knowing a few members in the house who can vouch for you. but don't stress about it too much! as long as you're being yourself and having good conversations, you'll make it into the house where you fit in the best

Being a legacy usually assures you one invitation back, but after that, they won’t think anything about cutting you. If you are trying to get into one of the top houses and you have good grades, the most important thing is having friends who are actives in the house. If you don’t know anyone, then getting into a top house is very hard.

It means different things to different sororities. Some sororities care about grades and activities and connections so they can stay On Top and continue to find value as an organization in offering the best. Others don’t care and want to make sure that beyond looking good on paper the sisters actually like each other and have a genuine connection, even if that means grades aren’t top priority. There is a bunch of fuss about tiers but I believe it boils down to 2 groups: one that cares about image, success, getting married, being on top, and one that cares about friendship, connection, parties, etc. neither have to be bad.

In my sorority it is very hard to cut a legacy and there has to be a VERY good reason to cut her. We usually cut a legacy only if her grades are too low or she gets several negative recs. Every sorority is different but I think everyone takes a legacy very seriously, especially if your mother or sister went to State. The flip side is that sororities other than your legacy house will assume you want that house and may go ahead and cut you without even giving you a chance. So being a legacy has an up and down side.

Which houses do PNMs automatically make it to pref..? I'm not aware of any sororities at MSU that do that. I think if anyone still does that it's smaller sororities that don't really have chapters are big universities.
