social media
by: pnm18So, I am OOR and will be at orientation this week. In reading past posts, is seems important to have in house contacts. I'll only be able to meet girls during orientation. Will that be enough? And can actives follow me on social media now? I have a decent GPA 3.66 and am what I think most would consider cute, but tend to be on the shy side.

I have similar characteristics to you. Great GPA but shy and from OOS. Meeting girls at orientation/ new maroon camp wasn't enough for me with the "top 3" houses but it's definitely not impossible. The other 5 houses are all awesome though and take many OOS girls. If you're cute and act nice during recruitment, you have a great chance at getting a house, it just may be harder to get one of the so called top 3.

i came to msu not knowing any active members, i think that hurt my chances of being in the “top 3” because they have a majority of mississippi girls. but that honestly didn’t even bother me because every house has amazing girls and i’ve been so happy where i ended up and have made the best friends. ranking doesn’t matter if you’re happy where you are. and being OOR won’t solely affect your rush experience so go in with an open mind and trust the process

I only knew a couple of sisters beforehand, and am also on the shy side and was worried that I'd have trouble having good conversations with people I didn't know during recruitment, so I literally came up with a list of things I like talking about beforehand I could think back to if I freaked out.
I'm sure I wasn't the most engaging person going through, but I felt like I always had something to talk about and I'm very happy where I ended up. Do your best, try and meet people at orientation if you can, but so long as you have recs, and get to know the sisters you talk to during recruitment you will end up somewhere. Prepare, manage expectations, and enjoy the women you meet and the houses who invite you back!

@Soph - Thanks for your reply! Being in a top 3 doesn't bother me one bit. What I am worried about is that I don't know anyone and I am nervous about not getting into a house because of it and because I get nervous/am shy around new people.
Will actives I meet during orientation still follow me on social media? Or is it too late?
