rush help!

by:

Hi!

Im am thinking about rushing this fall at MSU but I am a sophomore and would be the first of my family to go to a sorority. People have told me that I shouldn't even try, is rushing worth it?

Absolutely go through recruitment! So many houses take sophomores. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm almost positive that kd, zeta, pi phi, phi mu and adpi took upperclassmen last year. I'm willing to bet tri delta did too, I'm just not as familiar with that chapter. Some houses prefer that their members be there for 4 years but I know many sophomores who had a successful recruitment!

Thanks so much for the advice! Since I would be the first of my family to rush I'm not sure if I could get recommendation letters, how important are they?

Try your hardest to get those recs. I know it can be tough but post on Facebook saying you need recs for recruitment and list all 8 houses we have. Ask your parents to post that as well. You will be surprised how much that can help! If that doesn't work, contact the alumni chapter in your area and ask if someone can write a rec for you. These are easy to find just by searching your city + the sorority you're finding a rec for. I would try to get two per house to be safe, because while it is true that a house might write a rec letter for you if they love you, not having those recs can also be an easy way for houses to narrow down who to cut the next day.

I had two friends who pledged Chi O as sophomores. One ended up dropping but the other stayed. I know a KD who pledged as a sophomore. All sororitys take some sophomores.
