joining a frat

I am interested in joining a frat. I'll be a freshman this fall but am not from MS or the south. Are my best chances to go through fraternity recruitment in the fall? I read through some of the past posts and it looks like some guys are given bids in the summer, but is that for their friends and not for freshmen like me?

Used to be that tons of summer bids were given out by frats but not so much anymore. Frat recruitment is more like sorority now and most frats don't give out too many summer bids. So go through recruitment. You will find a frat you like.
