Phi Mu placed third in banner and first in cheer. Everyone had great banners and routines. All for a great cause.

I don't quite understand your question. Maybe this will answer it.

The overall winner was the sorority with the most points from the three categories combined. The overall winner receives the trophy. Chi O was the overall winner.

Who was over all 2nd and 3rd place behind chi o?

I would assume Phi Mu and KD were second and third overall since they placed in two categories as well. They only announced the overall first place though.

Because the categories are weighted differently. Banner is worth more points than cheer and Queen. Winning banner and placing in cheer gave Chi O the most points.

Derby Day is set up the same way. Basketball is worth the most in it so if a group wins basketball and places in dance they usually win overall. That's why the basketball tourney is such a big deal.

Hi Hannah. Pretty sure you are trolling but I'll explain once again... banner is worth more than cheer (and queen). Winning banner gives you more points than anything else. Chi O's points for winning banner and placing 3rd in cheer were more than Phi Mu's points for winning cheer and placing 3rd in banner.

It's fairly simple to understand.

The cheer judges were Kappa Sig moms from their parents club. The Kappa Sig house mom did interviews and picked the Queen (same as Derby Darling). No clue who judged the banners. They announced all of this at the game. If you had been there or listened you would have known.

KD and Chi O always win? Well that's odd because Phi Mu won overall last year and has won the cheer competition like 4 out of the last 6 years.

So, parents judged the cheer competition? Why wouldnt cheerleaders who are skilled judge the cheer comp? Or skilled dancers , but parents? You just verified what the original posters concerns were. The house mom interviews? What about a panel of qualified judges. What a joke!

The house mother has picked Charity Bowl Queen and Derby Darling for a long time, years and years.

Sigma Chi uses professors and MSU staff to judge the Derby day dance competition. Kappa Sig has used old cheerleaders in the past to judge cheer.

Do you think cheer results would have been different if judged by cheerleaders? Heck no! Phi Mu killed their routine and did a fantastic job! They deserved the win. Also who is to say the parents who judged aren't past cheerleaders or might be a high school cheer coach.

If it's that big of an issue to you why don't you propose that your sorority not participate next year. See how that goes over in chapter. At this point you're just looking for an argument. Bottom line, it's a philanthropic event! You've lost sight of that most important fact.

List the parents cheer judging credentials if you think they are qualified to judge a cheer competition. Many people would like to know their credentials.

Fraternities bid to play in the football game against Kappa Sig. Sigma Chi donated $7,000 for a chance to play this year. Kappa Sig members take donations, sell ads for the program, sell t-shirts, and sell tickets to the game. Sororities make a donation to participate too. $140,000 is impressive!

Competition makes it fun only if it is fairly judged. Parents from the parents club judging a cheer event is crazy ridiculous. A house mom interviewing young women for Queen? Point being is there needs to be qualified judges. It’s only fun for the groups that win time and time again and they are no better than the other groups. All groups have competitive cheerleaders from high school and dancers on dance teams from high school so get judges that can judge. Same thing with banner. Artists and graphic design people need to judge those. Don’t say its all
just for charity. If that were the case, people wouldn’t be jumping on here for bragging rights.
