kd trouble

by: Olivia

Word around campus is the KD has a lot of girls from several pledge classes dropping. Grades, money, family issues, bullying, not feeling welcome are all things I’m hearing as reasons. Still, each graduation class grows smaller year to year. Sad...retention is so important!

Sounds a lot like zeta too. They have a terrible retention rate.

My bff is dropping KD this semester. She is a sophomore. She began her unhappiness during freshman year. It seems like the junior and seniors showcase one or two girls each and the rest of you can eat dirt. She’s staying home and going to school.

All greek organizations are going to have people drop, for various reasons. KD is no different. Some circumstances are beyond anyone's control (family issues, money issues, etc.). But honestly, it's just like anything else: It's what you make of it. If you jump in, get involved, embrace it and make the most of it, it can be a fantastic experience. Best of luck to those who are moving on--I truly wish the best for you.

I’m in one of the sororities deemed “top tier” (which i think is so dumb but whatever) and honestly i was unhappy for a while and felt left out and like i had no place and almost dropped too. But i stuck it out for another semester and found friends who had also felt that way at some point. It took me really putting myself out there to find my place. I’ll be honest, there are some real mean girls in my sorority, but there are mean girls literally in every house. It’s what happens when you have a couple hundred people from various backgrounds in one group. You can’t sit there and call one house “mean” or whatever because they had an unfortunate retention rate one semester. It’s not for everyone and it does take time to find those friendships sometimes. Yeah you may “meet your future bridesmaids” but they never said you’ll meet them in bid day. If you’re having a rough time in your sorority, I’d say give it a little more time and be honest with your sisters about it. There’s no way you’re the only one feeling that way and it may spark a new connection.

It seems like someone tries to call out a particular sorority on here to get people fired up. Every sorority has girls who drop, and most of them drop for financial reasons. Being in a sorority is very expensive and if you don't get anything out of it, you should drop. But KD actually has a very high retention rate, as does DG and Chi O. As always, don't believe anything you read on here.
