tattoos

by:

I have a very visible tattoo on my arm of a rose. You can definitely see it when I wear sleeveless dresses or shirts. Will I be judged for this during rush next year? Do sororities accept girls with visible large tattoos? I'm sorta regretting getting it if it keeps me from having a social life at State.

You will be cut from my sorority. Most companies, in the future, will not hire someone with tattoos all over them. It's the real
World. Maybe Greek life isn't for you.

@Courtney - What sorority are you in?

Why does it matter what sorority she's in? Each group had the right to pick or not pick someone with or without a tattoo. Your standards may not be the same as someone else's. You're judging just as hard.

Greek life is the furthest thing possible from the real world. And you don't know what employers are looking for as I'm willing to bet you have no one working for you

I know more houses are having girls with tattoos, nose piercings, etc. It's more of what the tattoo is than if you have one or not. I don't think majority of houses will have an issue with it. But if you'd prefer, you can use tattoo make up for it.

I'm in a top house and we have a large number of girls with at least one tattoo. Most are very small and easily covered up though. If it's a giant tattoo down you're arm it might be a disadvantage like above poster said it's just not very professional. Rush is like an interview and I would probably cover it up! But that's up to you. Some houses might think it's tacky some might think it's cool. Just depends so it's you're call. I would personally cover it up but I also would never get a tattoo in the first place

You're post was fine until you said "I would never get a tattoo in the first place." She didn't ask about your personal preference

Who cares? I'm allowed to share my own opinion. I added it in because I might be baised about covering it up since I'm not keen on having tattoos anyways.

Why cheapen your appearance with permanent ink? You know it's controversial but you did it anyway? Obviously your parents gave you permission to tattoo yourself since you're still in HS and not 18. So your parents are aware of the stigma attached with female tattoos, especially large visible ones. Hopefully they realize that your candidacy for future jobs are limited so you'll have to choose an alternate degree path. Sorry, most Fortune 500 companies (yes we have them is Mississippi) don't allow tattoos to be visible. Therefore, sororities, if they are doing there job to help you grow into a more diverse, hirable young lady, don't allow tattoos to be visible.
Greek life usually isn't for girls that don't conform to some social standards.

This is so stupid.
I have a giant tattoo on my arm and it was something that was special to me and had special meaning to me and I was excited when girls in houses would ask me about it and respond positively to it.
My tattoo is special to me, I wanted the house that I pledged to understand why it was special to me and love me regardless of how huge or weird it was.
And I found a house that recognized that my crazy tattoo was a part of me and loved me anyway.

I think the point is that in the future, your employment will be limited due to a decision you made at 16-17 years of age. It's a matter of maturity.

I don't remember her asking about her employment opportunities? And this site is the last place I would take employment advice anyways

Girl you are planning to rush at MSU. This is a hornet's nest of judgmental Mom's that run the show. Set you expectations based on this. There are four maybe five houses that will drop you day 1. You made a choice and we will make a decision.

Go ahead and plan to rush. Yes, the top 5 sororities ARE GOING TO CUT YOU! You may as well know this going into rush. No one wants a gigantic colorful rose staring at them while they are in line at the homeless shelter, because, you know, you are expected to participate in service projects. Judging someone by looks is unfortunately a part of life. We all do it. You maybe the sweetest girl ever, a big tattoo is seen as a risky reputation. The fact that you are hell bent on shoving it in everyone's face tells me you are after attention even more than a social life.
