hometowns?

by:

Someone recently made several posts and rankings bashing groups for pledging "hometown" girls. Who cares? Every sorority member on the MSU campus would love for their hometown friends to pledge their sorority and share the bond of sisterhood with them. These groups also pledge MANY girls who do not have in-house friends. It definitely make one wonder if the negative post writer was a " hometown" girl who harbors a grudge against these groups because she did not get a bid from them.

I was wondering the same thing. It seemed that some of the comments really were about the bickering between Mississippi girls. Then it seemed like there was someone with a grudge trying to make some of the sororities look bad. I'm a little annoyed at some of the things that were said. Like some people were saying if you're from MS you're somehow less intelligent or worthy of being in one of these groups. Truth is, we do like our friends to pledge our sororities. We know them and their reputation. Why is that a bad thing? Maybe that leaves less space for some other girls, but every sorority is great at State. DDD, ZTA, Phi Mu and Pi Phi do have more out of state girls than the other three (though every sorority has some), but those are great groups of girls. As long as we can agree that ALL that sororities are strong (no matter where their members are from) then why does it matter that some groups have more girls from Mississippi than others?

It really speaks more about the reputations of the 3 or 4 groups with strong hometown pull. If girls from MS, Memphis, Birmingham, LA, and other areas that we typically get a pretty good number of rushees from consistently want certain houses, then they obviously know those houses reputations and the older girls from the same place that have pledged there. Stronger chapters have hometown pull and know the best girls out of each hometown will be aiming for certain houses. That does NOT mean girls from outside of the hometowns that normally get a couple of girls into each top house do not also get in, but it is competitive. And that does NOT mean that the 3 or 4 houses with strong hometown ties are doing something wrong and the other 3 are doing better. Yes, every sorority is great and has things to offer, but at the end of the day if the girls coming from good schools with good grades, character, and involvement want the same houses.....then that says more about reputations.

Then why rank? What's your criteria?
The only fact would be a grades.
The rest? Simply the opinion of a FEW on looks, involvement and popularity.
I would like to know what you base that on.No one person on this site knows what each of the 200+ girls in each sorority is involved in....period.
And what constitutes "popular"? You see them everywhere in their letters??
sad sad sad that you choose to rank at all!!
each group is obviously perfect for each girl that chooses them.
this site should change it purpose.
Because a girl is smart and cheers or dances doesn't make her better than the girl that
is simply a great sister...period.

No one "ranked" anyone in the above comment. I am thinking you meant it in response to a different post.
