All I know is that Chi O is #1 nationally followed by ZTA AT #2.

Chi Omega is the largest one in the nation. That doesn't necessarily translate to "best."

The top ten list is posted on odyssey. Most of our chapters make the top 10. Obviously, that is opinion. Maybe one or two
Of our chapters are not listed but I know chi o, KD, DG, DDD,ADPi, Zta , Pi phi are listed.

If you are talking regionally, the list looks different.

Chi O, Theta, Pi Phi, Kappa, DG, DDD (no order, obviously)
Next strongest would probably be Zeta, Alpha Phi, and ADPi
KD and Phi Mu are arguably the strongest 2 in the south but nationally really weak

Since we attend a school in the south, most Greek women tend to join strong southern sororities. That is logical.

If you are leaving the south, it does make a difference. Pi Phi and ZTA are strong in Texas and Arkansas , ADPi , DDD , Chi O and KD are very strong at SEC schools ...

ZTA is also big in Georgia, and Alabama

Again, you named southern states. Most of us Mississippi girls will stay in state. The top sororities in our state are Chi o, KD, DG, Phi Mu. Kappa is strong at ole miss but has no other chapter in our state. DZ tried to make it at USM but did not. Zeta folded st ole miss.

And that is the problem. Most girls that are Greek and from Mississippi are so close minded. There is a big world out there that doesn't revolve around which sorority you were in during college. I'm from out of state and love my sorority. I've traveled all over the world. Love the state of Mississippi and MSU but the snobby Mississippi attitudes when most haven't even left the surrounding states much less the Country is baffling to me. All sororities at MSU are good groups. Join the one you feel comfortable with and if you are released from that group , give the other ones a chance. Top tier ( whatever ) girls are just like bottom tier ( whatever ) girls. Just the letters on the door are different. Top Tier groups got in a lot of trouble last year for doing the same thing the lower tiered groups get called out for. I have friends in all sororities. A few bad girls are in every group and that is all you hear about. Focus on the positive and all that we do for the campus and the community.

I agree with you about there being an entire world outside of Mississippi. However, to an 18 year old girl, when going through rush, if you are fortunate enough to have connections in a sorority, you will probably Jean toward what is familiar. It's many rushers first time away rim home and seeing something familiar is a comfort. That is why many Mississippi girls pledge the sororities that are strong in our state. Most girls aren't thinking "globally" coming out of high school. If you do, then you are a gifted and mature 18 year old and kudos to you. I have found (as a senior and one who interned in NY) that this behavior is common in most 18 year old girls. We do our most maturing in college. I am very happy you found your home at State!!! I did!

I agree with you but how about encouraging Mississippi girls to branch out and meet new girls , encourage diversity , not joining 13 th grade and not following the crowd.

How about just encouraging in general. Our main goal is to empower our girls to be independent thinkers and trend setters. Whatever path gets you there and whatever speed, let's just love our girls through it. Everyone is different {hence the diversity} and that's why there are 8 sororities.

Most 18 year old women (not girls - if we're going to talk about encouraging diversity, empowerment, independence - then let's stop talking like they are 12) want to go into a sorority where they feel comfortable and accepted. Not a single 18 year old is looking at a sorority because they are strong in Mississippi. That's a mom and alum mentality.
