in state sisters

Just curious but what is the appeal to being in a sorority such as DG or KD that accepts mostly in state and local girls? That seems boring not getting to know people from different states. I'm just trying to figure out why that makes it a top tier. I keep seeing a lot about top tiers having "in state girls" Someone please explain!

It's a way for small town mississippi girls who will never leave this state to feel better about themselves. Quite sad honestly because they truly do put their self worth into getting in one of these houses.
