how many pnms

by: PNM

Does anyone know how many PNMs have registered already? Curious if it will be bigger or smaller number than last year.
I was reading some previous posts and it looks like 850+ went thru last year with only 730ish getting a bid. Now I'm worried I won't get a bid at all. I thought girls got cut for being grade risk and bad reps only. Did a lot of girls fall thru the cracks and get dropped by all who weren't grade risks, etc?

Unfortunately, every year we have girls that fall through the cracks. I know girls that were super sweet and smart but got cut from every house. most people do get a bid but sometimes this isn't the case. Make the best impression you can. Be friendly and memorable and remember that you would be lucky to be a member of any of the eight groups we have. As far as the amount of girls going through recruitment, I think the number will be about the same as last year.

Over 1/2 of the class of 2020 left Mississippi state second semester... wonder if rush had anything to do with it

There were over 3600 students who are class of 2020 at MSU. Are you trying to say that over 1,800 students left MSU because of last year's rush????

Obviously not. I'm saying some girls who had a bad rush experience left. I know of a few this happened with

There will always be some wounded snowflakes or others who think they are better, home sick, party too hard, or ran out of $$$. But you are kidding yourself if you think 1/2 of the class of 2020 left MSU. It sounds like you changed your mind and that 1/2 turned into a few that you know or heard of.

PNMs - please be rid of the bad attitudes and go in with a positive vibe and open mind. If you do, 99% chance of landing where you can and will be happy and make friends in your new sorority.

No, over half left. Any student can access the freshman class enrollment from fall to spring.

Post your info then. I've looked everywhere and all that I can find is Fall 2016 numbers. If I had to guess you're looking at new enrollment for Spring, not total number of freshmen left.

Also to be considered with questions of enrollment are students that come in with college credit from AP or community colleges. A lot of students become a sophomore based on hours only one semester into college.

Of the pledge classes on bid day

Chi O, DG, and Kd around 80
Phi mu 90
Pi Phi, Tri D, and zeta 100 plus
ADPi ?

How many are still active?

Lots dropped and moved before school started, lots before going active and lots transferring if went inactive. These numbers would tell the real story.

Chi o 76
KD 88
DG. 89
Phi mu 90
That's is far from "around 80"

Please state facts even if they don't fit your very own perception.

Okay??? I didn't have those facts but was giving round figures. But thanks for being explicitly precise. So allow me to change my comment. The elite Chi O house took less than 80 and the next 3 houses of girls took around 90... does estimates work better for you?

Yeah that works much better. When being a know it all, you probably need to research your information better. It's called vetting.

Not many girls fall through the cracks! No one gets cuts from everything. The problem is when girls don't keep an open mind and start cutting houses early. Then by the end of the week they get cut by the houses left. Most of the girls that didn't get a bid dropped from rush in the middle of the week because they were dead set on a house and didn't get it. You will be fine don't worry. I had the same fears going through but I had an awesome rush and absolutely love my sorority!

I prefer less signed up to rush but they have an open mind. Not everyone dropping when they do not get the houses they want. Retention should be the focus this year for houses not huge pledge classes. Take girls who want to be there.

So again I ask what was the retention? How about the poster who knew the exact size of the pledge classes tell us?

By: Curios
by: RetentionJul 22, 2017 2:14:36 PM

Only someone from each sorority would be able to tell us the exact size of each pledge class now versus on their bid day. The best way to judge retention at this point is by how many girls each house took last year and then again this year. The houses that took less girls last year had fewer spots open because they retain more girls. Houses that took more lost more girls. To be clear, every house loses members at some point of the 4 years a girl could be in a sorority and there are multitudes of reasons, including going to another school, like nursing after 2 or 3 years, or graduating early...it is not always a bad thing. I know my sorority had about 10 girls from one pc go to nursing school at one time so it might look like 10 girls dropped but that's not the reality. TYPICALLY the big 4 have the highest retention which is why the pledged lower numbers and the other 4 were allowed to take more girls to ty and balance out the numbers.

Look on Panhellenic's website. It lists the number of members in each chapter in the scholarship/grades report.

I haven't seen where Panhellenic posts retention numbers/rates. They do post total members in sororitys for the fall then again in the spring, but you cannot get an accurate retention rate with those since it includes graduation #s, early alum status (internships/travel abroad), etc.

According to the Grade Reports, This is the total Membership as of Dec, April & then the difference which would be how many members they lost. Unless they took a spring pledge class which would increase the number of women that dropped.
Fall 2016
Chi O - 320
KD - 287
DG - 282
Phi Mu - 282
DDD - 261
Pi Phi - 274
Zeta - 281
ADPi - 174

Spring 17
Chi O - 319
KD - 274
DG - 274
Phi Mu - 255
DDD - 252
Pi Phi - 245
Zeta - 237
ADPi - 162

Members lost
Chi O - 1
KD - 13
DG - 8
Phi Mu - 27
DDD - 9
Pi Phi - 29
Adpi - 12
Zeta - 44

DDD, Pi Phi, AdPi, and Zeta took spring pledge classes. They did a similar "variable quota" in the spring where chapters could only take members based on their chapter size. I have listed them smallest to largest based on who could offer the fewest bids to the most. this is the actual PC size as far as I can find.
DDD - 3
Pi Phi - 4
Zeta - 11
ADPi - 10

It is really eye opening to see which chapters are struggling with Retention more than others.

Keeping in mind again that some members lost could have transferred schools, gone to nursing, or graduated. Doesn't mean a black and white girl dropped her sorority.

Keep in mind the grade reports on pan include spring pledge classes! So bottom houses I would subtract about 5-10

Does any one know how many girls were dropped completely last year? Did your house mainly drop girls for grades, recs, reputation or wasn't a good fit. Or do each of these happen on different days?
