pnm legacy not given

by:

I'm a PNM and a legacy to a sorority at another SEC school. I am thinking about not putting it on my resume because I don't want it to hurt me in that others at MSU will drop me because they think I might be an automatic in at that sorority. I really want to go thru rush with an open mind and find the best fit for me. Is it ok if I leave out my mom's sorority info?

Leave it out. Hurt me and if you are not a MSU legacy it does not matter.

I was thinking the same thing. Do you think any of the sororities can look a parent up to see? And if so, will they hold it against the girl if she doesn't put it on the resume? Thanks

With the way variable quota worked last year, you will be lucky to get a bid from any house. Many girls were cut even though they had good resumes simply because they were overlooked. Being a legacy reduces your chances of being overlooked by at least one house. I can't help but think the reason you don't want to include your legacy status is because you think the house is not good here. I really hope I'm wrong with that assumption because no one is too good for any house. In my opinion, you should include your legacy.

Just to add to what was said above: if a house likes you enough, they won't cut you. Some girls think they were cut because they were a legacy for another house but that's not always the case. If you make it known that you have an open mind and are opened to all sororities, not just your legacy house, you will have the same chance as everyone else.

No, I'm a legacy to what is considered a good house but they don't take very many OOS (which is what I am). Just don't want to get dropped by other houses because they think I will be picked up by the legacy house. I'd like the houses to decide if I'm a good fit, not cut me because they think I'm an automatic in one of them.

@greek - I thought one of the things variable quota was supposed to do is help find all girls a place in a house. Isn't that how variable quota is set? I thought girls got completely dropped only due to grades or bad reps. Is that not the case???
Also, like the other PNM (@?), my legacy house is considered on GR to be "top tier". I could care less what "tier" I pledge so long as I find girls I connect with. But I would like to optimize my chances and not be dropped from houses because of where I am a legacy. Previous threads have said there is a maximum number of legacies and maximum number of out of state girls that sororities will take. That's two strikes against me since I'm not from MS.

I can't talk for all sororities, but my sorority does not cut girls based on their legacy house. We don't even look at whether or not a girl is a legacy unless she's a legacy for us. Other sororities have different policies for that I know, However it is completely up to you whether or not you state your legacy status. I wish you the best of luck!

No phi mu lagacy that phi mu didn't cut was stolen from phi mu. Phi mu cut over half of their legacies because there were too many.

Wrong. My two best friends were both Phi Mu legacies - moms were Phi Mu's at State. They both preffed Phi Mu and neither went Phi Mu.

Honestly, it doesn't matter for my house if you put it on there. We know if you're a legacy or not because of the recs that we get. For other houses, it will matter but for mine it doesnt. We base ours on your chemistry. If you aren't a grade risk or of harmful reputation than it's totally open minded. If you decide to put it on there just make sure you're honest with your girls during rush. Let them know that you'll go where your heart leads you reguardless if your legacy. Variable quota may hurt some people's feelings but if you got cut because of that the best they didn't really want you. They take who they really want if you're left out then you're better off elsewhere

Tridelta. My only is advice is to overlook anything that you have heard and be yourself. You will find every type of personality in every chapter. Mine is extremely diverse and we pride ourselves in that. I promise it sounds corny but you'll find a place that you love and girls that will truly love you no matter where you go. There are genuine girls in every house and plenty of houses like us who won't care where you family member is associated. we want you for you and we want you to want us as well. It doesn't matter what your mom or you sister or whatever picked because this is your choice. I was a legacy so I understand that pressure. If you choose for you, then everything will work out.
