frat initiation

by:

After reading transcripts from the Penn State frat death trial, I am curious to know if State frats have this problem. Is drinking to 0.36 alcohol blood level the norm? What occurs if a brother gets to this point? Are frats out of control like this? I am accepting an early bid this summer. I am asking this because I am now concerned about fraternities' behavior.

Frats drink a lot. That's just part of their lifestyle However, the guys I know won't leave one of their brothers by himself if he gets extremely drunk. In my experience in Greek life I've noticed that the guys are smart about it when one of their brothers drinks too much. They care about each other and for this reason we have not had an incident like Penn State.

IFC at State stays on top of everything really well. They aren't afraid to suspend a fraternity over alcohol violations and they all know it. Sure they drink but have smart executive officers who are not going to jeopardize getting kicked off campus.

At state frats drink a lot. However (in my experience and from talking to friends and people in frats) the guys care more about keeping their chapter and their brotherhood than getting pledges wasted. Pledges get drunk but no chapter is willing to risk a brother's life. Also, most frats have some freshmen who don't drink and they don't force them. I know for a fact Fiji has brothers who don't drink and never had a problem.
