variable quota

It's a system used during recruitment to even out the numbers each sorority has. The sororities with the most active members already will have a smaller amount of girls they are allowed to take. The sororities with fewer active members will have a larger quota of girls to take. For example, last year Chi O had the highest retention rates and therefore could only take 60 new members (I believe this was their quota at least). Adpi, being the newest chapter, had the least active members and had a quota of 120 girls. Every other sorority fell somewhere in the middle of that depending on the number of members they already had.

Wrong. It had to do with the number of actual members. Chi O, KD, and DG were the largest and were therefore allowed smaller pledge classes. The smaller sororities were allowed larger pledge classes. The idea is to eventually even out the sizes so that all 8 sororities have approximately the same number of members. In the past, KD, DG, and Chi O could give out about 100 bids. With variable quota, they could only give out about 80 bids. That's about 60 girls who would have otherwise pledged DG, KD, or Chi O who had to pledge other sororities or drop out of rush. Personally, I think it's a great idea and will stop those 3 from being so much larger and powerful. It may take a few years, but it will work. All sororities benefitted from it, but it just made it even more difficult to get a bid from one of the Top 3.
