where you get in depends on hometown

by:

I don't care what anyone says about rush. This is the truth: girls from established hometowns who know girls already in the sorority get bids from the "top houses." The "bottom tier" houses are made up of small town and out of state girls and a few rejects from cities. Especially with the new quota. It has very little to do with "quality" despite what everyone says. That's the reason the lower houses have a few more bad seeds because there were no members who knew them beforehand. The majority of all sororities are made up of girls with equal GPA and high school involvement. I already know there will be negative comments so bring them on but it's the truth. If you deny it you are an idiot.

Houses want the best girls regardless of hometown. All houses want the best PNMs going through. They want top grades, involvement, and community service. With variable quota the top house are more selective and aren't building new member classes from strictly hometown friends. If you are a hometown friend with the other qualities then sure they will want you but MANY hometown friends were released last year.

Just a "top house" trying to defend themselves. I know you guys tell yourselves this to make yourselves feel better but it simply isn't true!

I'm OOS, didn't know any sorority members, and still got in a top house.

@ @Ha My guess is that you are southern OOS, not true OOS

There is a huge difference between southern and the rest of the country. Pi Phi has the largest group from outside of the south that are top PNM because they are so string nationally and especially in Texas. Otherwise you have to know someone to get a top house... these I didn't know anyone posts are bull. They may not know anyone personally but their mom did.

DG is irrelevant! Whether OOS or local, they are a strange mix of hot mess!

Go to Orientation. Every sorority has a booth set up. Meet the girls and make a good impression! If they like you, they will remember you when rush starts even if you don't know anyone at State right now.

I'm from out of state, am in a top teir house and had the top four left on the day before pref. So I don't think this is accurate at all

It's not saying absolutely every girl is like that. It's how it works the majority of the time. The point is that you didn't charm your way in there. You slipped in and there are girls in middle houses that are as good if not better than you

Chi O - Jackson, Madison, Memphis - private schools, alums
KD - MAdison Central, private schools
DG - Delta and NE Mississippi
Phi Mu - More diverse but large towns Tupelo, Southaven, Meridian
Tri Delta - Coast, Hattiesburg, alums
Pi Phi - OOS, small towns
Zeta - Random
ADPi - the rest

By: Fact
by: Slight correction

Pi Phi: Texas, OOS more Midwest, small towns
Zeta: Texas , Florida, OOS more northern, some small town but not as many
Tri Delta: legacies and random

Texas girls are usually Pi Phis and Zetas since both are really big in Texas

Variable quota changed things up a little last year because some houses wouldn't take as many as usual from certain towns. This is the part I disagree with:

Chi O and KD have tons of Delta girls. They might not have taken as many this year due to variable quota but typically most Delta girls pledge Chi O, KD or DG.

75% of the Desoto County girls go DG

Phi Mu has tons of small Mississippi town girls like Bruce, Kosciusko, Brookhaven, and Waynesboro.

Hattiesburg girls typically go KD or Chi O.

70% of coast girls pledge Phi Mu or KD

honestly if you do good during rush and engage and have good conversations and tell a house you WANT to be there, you have a good chance

Maybe this is true for a small percentage if you are an instate girl even with a top notch resume and grades it's mostly about how much your friends are willing to fight for you. It's all about the alumni, connections, and zip code for some houses.

I am a KD. My best friend is DG. We are both heavily involved in the rush process (not on the rush teams, just talk to top girls and trust me we are talking to each other during rush even if everyone says we don't). Every single OOS girl that we don't know prior to the summer we meet at orientation. Our OLs, New Maroon Camp girls, and girls set up at our tables during orientation are writing down every girl they meet that they are interested in. We'll cross check that with resumes and recs we get and start fighting for those girls if they hit it off with one of our members over the summer. Honestly, by the time we factor in top girls, legacies, girls with strong in house pull, and the OOS we meet over the summer, our PCs are full. So if you want to be on a houses radar, meet US during the summer. If you don't you're going to be cut for a girl we got to meet already. It's not because we don't like you or you don't fit in, but because we have very few spots and too many girls just like you that we already love before they walk in the door on Go Greek.

This is the truth! So most pledge classes are picked within 10-20 girls before rush starts. It is not your resume or how you dress - if is always who you know to fight for you.

Do "top tier" sororitys intentionally only take very small # of non-southern pnms or do you think they don't take more because most of them don't hit it off at orientation, new maroon camp, etc?

@OOS - it's not that we intentionally only take a small number, it just logistically is how it works out. THink about it from our perspective. Almost every girl from MS and Memphis, even places like Birmingham, probably has someone pulling for them in a house. So while we love the new people we meet and want to get the best of the best from OOS or no connection girls, for every girl like that we take we are cutting an actives family member or best friend. The truth is with 200+ girls in the house and let's say 75 spots, every single active is cutting someone she truly does want in our house. So I know it's blunt, but at the end of the day there are only so many girls with connections we are willing to not pledge for the stand out girls with no connections. It's not because we don't like you or want to keep our sorority strictly MS/Memphis based, we just want the girls we grew up with to finally share our sisterhood too.

Use to be that the majority of Madison Central girls went Phi Mu but the last two classes have gone majority KD. A lot of legacy KD moms pushed their girls there. However Phi Mu got some really good girls from
There last year. Also, large schools like that tend to have a few girls pledge each sorority. I wouldn't lump them all together on one sorority.
