chances of getting into a sorority as a sophomore?

by: curious

I'm transferring to State this Fall for my sophomore year. I've heard it is a lot harder for a sophomore to get into a sorority. Is that true and if it is, why?

Unfortunately it is harder to get in as a sophomore because top tiers traditionally want girls to be in the sorority for all 4 years to keep their numbers right. For example, if a sorority took 100 girls and 20 were sophomores, then come the rest of the 80 girl's senior year, the chapter would be short 20 girls. They just want a steady flow of girls that can really serve the chapter all 4 years. This is not to say that no one will take sophomores because they will! My pledge class has about 5-6 older girls and I know a lot of other chapters that do as well. Again, it is just not ideal. Please don't let this discourage you from rushing though I just wanted to explain why its like that!!

If you have connections with a house it shouldn't be too hard. Each sorority takes upper classman.
