by:

Be prepared for an even bumpier ride in august. Look for many different changes--- you will not like them.

I heard it will be during syllabus week to take parents out of the picture.

Ha! Changing the dates will not keep parents out of the picture. Just ask anyone you know who is Greek at Ole Miss! Syllabus week might be ok. I don't see how my Ole Miss friends do it in October. So many people I know had major tests during rush there.

Why can't Panhellenic just leave the rush dates alone?

By: Ugh
by: Well

It's not Pan. It's the school. The school is losing money every time a butt hurt little girl drops out or transfers on bid day. So if the girls have attended atleast one day of class then they still have to pay tuition.

Girls dropped and transferred when they didn't get the house they wanted. Each girl that drops costs the school a couple thousand. That's why USM and Ole Miss delays rush.

This is the very reason why Stare's Rush has been so attractive to others. We were the last traditional rush. Even though it wasn't, it came off as "exclusive ". Like it or not, all you girls want in an "exclusive" group.

Why not over fall break weekend. We would get an extra week of summer. No conflict with classes maybe have first round Friday and shorten rush. Have bid day on Tuesday afternoon

No. Too close to midterms. Sorority members would have to practice and do all the pre-rush stuff during midterms. Not a good move. Also there might be a home football game.

Delay till Spring like Baylor and SMU. They rush a week before school starts in January. Fall grades are in and PNM are committed to State at that point. Gives the PNM and chance to settle in and make sure Greek life is for her. Retention rates are much higher there. I would feel bad for PNM and actives if done mid semester.

This would hurt the University as a whole If it has to be moved Syllabus week is the best option. Believe me an entire semester of pre-rush for actives and following recruitment rules for PNMs and active wouldn't work. Ole Miss Rush is very difficult now. My friends hate the time.

Would Spring rush hurt the University? PNM settle into college and studying without the added pressure of meetings etc. Talk to girls in houses at Baylor and SMU and they like the process. Plus gives PNM who are not connected chance to meet members and build a relationship. Girls that may have been cut because of no connection may have a chance. This process helps to take parents out of the mix.

@How I have no desire to have an entire semester of "rush" which is basically what would happen if MSU did spring rush. Again, my active friends at Ole Miss hate having pre-rush meetings and practices for a mid-semester rush. They meet every Sunday afternoon and night until the October recruitment. I can't imagine the pain of spring rush. Holding recruitment during syllabus week is an ok compromise to me!

Thank you Jackie Mullen! You bring your new ideas to our school and try to mess with what is a traditional rush. I know you look in this site. Only a few were complaining before this new quota system. All you did was anger a vast majority now. And you want to implement a new time for rush? WAY TO SCREW IT UP JACKIE!

By: Welp.....

It is not Jackie Mullen! Changes like this come from the top. Universities DO NOT like to lose students. Y'all are the biggest bunch of whiners I have ever seen.

So the Panhellenic council has raised its head. We know y'all come on here and read. Who is the higher ups??? If they thought wealthy benefactors were upset, they'd stop this new rush rules and go back to the traditional ways. No, Jackie has a say so on this!!!

By: Ahhhhh
by: NO

I could care less if you believe me but I am not on Panhellenic council.

Higher ups = President Keenum, Provost/Ex Vice Pres Bonner, and others in the MSU Administration. It has ZERO to do with benefactors and everything to do with administrators who DO NOT like losing students and the money that goes with them due to sorority recruitment! Administrators who are educated enough to make decisions that benefit the entire University not just Greeks!

I don't know how many students left school but losing only 10 would cost the University $77,000 in tuition alone for in-state students and twice as much for out-of-state students. That doesn't include housing, meals, and miscellaneous money spent on campus. When the state of Mississippi is constantly reducing funding to universities every single dollar is important!

The changes aren't my favorite but I'm making the best of it! So... my advice to you is to suck it up and deal with it!
