Please don't let our senate vote to make MSU a sanctuary for foreigners that commit crimes, as Ole Miss senate did last night. Why would we need this? I know our senate president leans this way. Do not stand for this!!

The ASB may retract this rediculous measure. It's illegal and federal funds will be with held from Ole Miss. Now, this vote by our senate to ban a non-mandatory, free-choice prayer goes against federal laws as well. The prayer is a choice. Don't let this radical president dictate to the majority what to do and how to run a university. The inmates don't run the asylum.

The problem isn't the praying itself per se. It's that having a group prayer as part of a meeting for a group that really has nothing to do with religion sort of shows a bias toward one religion. It would be the same way if they did just a Muslim prayer or just a Buddhist prayer etc. it's just not fair to people with different beliefs to play favorites with religion just because the school is majority Christian. I feel like it'd be totally different if it was specifically a Christian group or if this was a Christian college (then it would actually be dumb to ban the prayer). But since you can't just have like 100 separate prayers for every single religion it's just fairer to not pray at all (bc it seems like you're playing favorites)

The prayer is stated at the beginning of each meeting as optional. If they don't want to pray, they have option not to. A prayer is positive. Any prayer. I'd be fine with a silent prayer. I believe these guys don't want any prayer.

Ole Miss withdrew the proposal after receiving so much negative backlash from alumni and state officials. It will not pass her either.

The United States Senate starts their sessions with prayer so if they can do it a public university should be able to do it. If nothing else, a moment of silence would be nice.
