pnms and grade questions

by: Senior

I'm posting this because from now until August a lot of girls get on here and ask about their grades and how likely it is to affect them. Just to prepare any girls out there struggling with their GPA, and I say this not to be mean but so that you aren't heartbroken during rush and drop, in my house (it's a top 4 and I know others vote similar to this but obviously cannot speak for everyone) we are given a list of all the girls with their hometown, high school, GPA, and ACT score on it, and that's it. The first round of cuts we remove the girls with no recs or bad recs, then girls that actives said no to that are from the same hometown, then the seniors can start taking girls off the list. All they do is scan the list and start calling out names with bad GPAs/scores. And unless an active or advisor says that girl is well connected and we can't cut her, she's gone. We don't go back and look at your rec, or your resume, or even ask the girl who talked to you that day. We have to cut SO many girls that night that we have to start somewhere and it's always grades. The 2nd round we sometimes cut the lower grades again, but mostly at that point it's girls we are connecting with or not. If your GPA starts with a 2 or your ACT with a 1 - YOU ARE IN TROUBLE. Please do not go in thinking you'll get what you want and be heartbroken then drop. STICK WITH IT and find an AMAZING sorority, even if you didn't love them from day 1.

We have found recs for maybe 2 girls in my time here. These were girls that were very much OOS but we loved during rush. We took the time to hunt down those recs because they were standouts based on resume and personality. 99% of girls without a rec will be cut the first night in my sorority.

IF you have a great resume otherwise and a clean rep ADPi might give you a shot, but they were tight on grades last year. Honestly unless a powerful alum or active is pulling for you it's going to be very hard to get a bid. Just prepare yourself now for facing cuts and be open-minded to where ever you land. If that's released then work really hard a freshmen to get a good college GPA then try as a sophomore

I know girls from like Georgia who didn't have recs for or knew any one in tri delt and still got in and she doesn't really stand out too much

I said I was specifically talking about how my house, which is considered top 4, works. And I know another top houses works the same way. I can't speak for any other houses. But if I girl goes into rush thinking she will only go top 4 with grades like that she will be sorely disappointed and I would rather prep girls to look at the other houses that are outstanding here instead of dropping out of rush. I also want to prep girls that they may be released because of these things but to keep trying. There are several sororities on campus that can't bid a girl without a rec based on national policy, but some can. My sorority can't, so if we like you enough we MAY find one for you, but probably not. I'd rather be open about the process with PNMs now then have more quit rush over false expectations.

I asked my sister about it (DDD in another state) and In that case that girl either had a rec sent in without her knowing, or Tri Delt found a rec for her. Every girl that gets a bid has to have a rec. national rule. Same with my house and probably every house on the row.
