recs

How important are the people writing your recs? Like if i had someone from the national headquarters of a sorority writing me a rec... is that even a big deal?

Depends. You would think so but it isn't always the case. The bigger chapters can be very selective so even a strong recommendation requires you to have activities, grades, etc.

Especially with the top houses, we know who the big alumni from every town. If you are from a town with a lot of alums that went to MSU or even Ole Miss and one of them doesn't write your rec it's kind of a big deal. Our big alums practically hand pick the girls they want us to rush. I can give you the names of the girls from Columbus, or Tupelo, or Vicksburg for the next several years that we are going to be looking at. BUT if you have one of those ladies supporting you, you're going to be reallllly hard to cut. To answer your question, It would be very hard to cut a girl that has a rec from someone associated with nationals.

Well If you are in a big town, you aren't guaranteed a rec from alumni and not everyone knows people associated with chapters. Recs are not required but seems as if they are....Recruitment seems as if it's more who you know than who you are. can't disagree due to " if you have one of those ladies supporting you, you're going to be reallllly hard to cut"

Recs are absolutely required. It is the national policy of most sororities that you can't be given a bid without a rec. It's really quite simple: if you are from a place that our alums SHOULD know you, then it is about who you know. We have too many girls with great resumes that it has to be narrowed somehow and taking girls that are approved by trusted sources is one way to do it. If you are from a place that we don't know, then it's about who you are. Plenty of girls get in without knowing people in house. It might be done differently in other houses but I 1000% promise thats how Chi O, KD, and DG narrow their lists.

No one cares what DG does to bite on PNMs. They are looked at as outsiders..

Our alumna do not dictate who we keep or who we release. Same for our advisors. They leave the decisions to the chapter because they realize the members are the ones who will eat dinner with her, be at Frat parties with her, etc.

To clarify, they hand pick who we are rushing from a town, not who we bid. They give us more girls than we can take and it's our job to pick from there. But if you aren't on that initial list it's more difficult to get a bid. No our advisors and alums do not pick the pledge class.

@yes Ok, this is similar to my top house because of how our recruitment system is set up. Thank you for clarifying.

what do you mean hand pick so the other girls do not have a chance? How many people don't get a bid a rush and what would be the reason to get cut? If you have it all except connections will you make it?

If you are from a large enough town in Mississippi or Memphis, we know the alums. We are given an initial list of girls we should be rushing from our active members and alums from those areas. If you are not on that list chances are you won't be given a bid because there are up to 20 girls on the list (just for one area!) and we will bid 3-5 of them, max. Last year KD taking so many was a total fluke that NEVER happens, so don't bet on it happening again. Basically, if you're from somewhere that we know the alums really well and they aren't writing you rec we will notice and the bid will go to someone who did get a rec from the alum we know. If you are from a tiny town that doesn't have a lot of alums or from OOS you're looked at based on your resume and rec, but we don't pay as much attention as to who wrote your rec because we may not know that person.

There are times when a PNM with zero connections, a great resume and top grades really clicks with the active members she meets. When this happens it's possible to get a bid without connections.

I know KD alumni from state play huge parts in who gets bids. They make the list on who to rush. If they don't like a girl's mother, they take her off the list.

"alumni should know you" what does that even mean? Not everyone knows alumni tbh

Just because you don't know alumni doesn't mean they don't know you. There are alumni meetings all summer. They find out who is going to their Alma Mater and find out about those girls. Even you didn't grow up knowing an alum I promise you know someone who knows one. If you don't know this is how it happens you either are a freshmen that hasn't done rush yet or in a house that doesn't rush this way. I'm not saying every house works like this, I said Chi O, KD, and DG do.

Hey girl they all work this way. Stop acting like chi o, KD and DG are the only strong houses at state. We know there are more. Caddy much?

By: Uhh
by: yes.

I never said other houses don't work this way. I only speak about what I know about and I know that is how those 3 operate. If someone from somewhere else wants to chime in that's great. Not every girl who only speaks about the policies of certain houses thinks those are the only ones that matter...that would be caTTy.
