Would it be hard for an out of state transfer student (sophomore) to get a bid? I have a high GPA and I'm involved and will probably have a rec for each house. Also, how much does being a legacy help?

It's not weird for girls to rush their sophomore year at Southern. Theres a few in each pledge class that waited until their sophomore year. One my my good friends and sorority sisters moved to Georgia and transferred to GSU and got a bid her sophomore year. A high GPA and being involved looks really good. As long as you don't have a bad reputation . None of the sororities really look at recs . I honestly didn't have a single rec and I don't remember that anyone else did. Legacys don't really help you out none of the sororities really focus on them. I was a legacy to one sorority and accepted a bid at a different one. I know that last year at rush a lot of girls were Legacys or even double Legacys ans got dropped from that particular sorority.

You should probably go through rush, see what houses are the best fit for you, then chug bleach.

I rushed as a sophomore and didn't have a problem getting a bid and had a full schedule every day. The high GPA is important and I don't think recommendations are too important because I had multiples for almost every house and ended up in a house that I only had 1 for. Being a legacy helps a lot, definitely. That's really the only thing that can get you "ahead" in the game. I know even junior girls who have ended up in good sororities like KD, ZTA, phi mu, AOII and a lot of junior girls get bids in KKG especially (and DPHiE will even take seniors but you know...) a sophomore isn't a big deal at all. Still have recs just because it wouldn't hurt, but don't rely on them too much. I worked my butt off to get them and like I said, I got into one that I only got 1 rec for. Good luck!
