by: JJLet's be real...no one at Mizzou had Mizzou as their first choice. It's everyone's "fall back" or safety school. Where did everyone really want to go? My first choice was Rhodes College.

Pluses;
1) Solid safety school
2) Great residency program
3) Beautiful campus
4) Variety of majors
5) Very traditional school and great history (until recently)
Negatives:
1) Recent protests – having to take sensitivity class because of need for safe zones. I live over 1,700 miles away and Mizzou gets laughed at when I mention it as an option. Solely for this reason. This stigma will last a while I guess.
2) Average academic programs. Don’t care about Journalism so that’s not an influence.
3) Colder than what I am use to but I can wear a jacket more often.
I am looking to go out of state for student body diversity a geographic change. I will be applying in the Fall and Mizzou is still on my list. After my visit last Summer, it was top 1-3 depending on my test schools and final grades of Junior year. However now I would say it is more in the range of number 3-5 since that mess.
Student population decline is an issue in the Midwest and yet I read applications were up at Missouri State even with protests on their campus. So there is something to the way Mizzou handled their situation and the hypocrisy of a militant group lead by a rich kid.
But the people I met on campus and in town were great and what happened a couple months later still shocks me. I will wait to see how this year transpires for Mizzou.

Clearly you haven't done your homework and remain proudly ill-informed. Mizzou's nursing, agriculture and business schools are extremely well-respected. It's not just the J-School that stands apart.

First off, I was referring solely to undergraduate studies. If I go to graduate school rankings, I am not sure that helps but I don’t care as I am a future freshman. Second, I am not knocking the school but I brought up journalism as that is what you hear about (and apparently that ranking is falling at the undergraduate level at least). Not even going to the USNWR # 103 ranking or Forbes # 230.
In regards to Pride Points under Sinclair school website, it talks about nursing as a top 30, 40 or 50 program depending on the level. Nursing is great for those few but those rankings would not be why I applied. A Top 10 or even 20 program would be impressive, then yes if I wanted to be a nurse.
Ag – U.S. World Report listed top 12 and Mizzou not there. Cornell, Purdue, Davis, Iowa State, Michigan State, Nebraska and others listed but not Mizzou. I then went to the 30 best value ag schools and not listed either.
Business - Bloomberg has it ranked 75th. Not in top 30 (all I could see) in U.S. News. Accounting wasn’t in top 30 either just in case you bring that up as well. Found accounting under account degree org at # 26.
I read Education was another of their better programs but not top rated or even close. None of what you said is true unless you feel that top 30 -70 is top ranked. I assume you are regurgitating the mantra you hear to make you feel better about your lot in life Dr. Obtuse.

Mizzou was my first choice for journalism (obviously) and was my brother's first choice for accounting. We are from the Chicago area. I also was accepted at Wisconsin, Illinois, UMass-Amherst and Bowdoin. He also was accepted at Indiana, U. of Colorado, U. of Ill., Davidson and Rice. Mizzou by far offered the best education for the money. Its job placement in journalism is among the best in the nation, and the accounting program draws recruiters from all over. So while it might be a safety school for a lot of people, it also attracts a significant number who were accepted at much more selective schools and opted not to go there.

I'm an architecture student and each and every day I am in awe of the architectural integrity of this school, with its three distinct campus styles. With the possible exceptions of William and Mary and Miami of Ohio (which, by the way, is a notoriously awful school), I can't think of a prettier campus.

I can't find Mizzou on any of the rankings for prettiest college campuses from Forbes, US News and World Report, etc. I wanted UVa and was flat out rejected. I only got into East Carolina University (which sux) and Mizzou.

Are you kidding me? Francis Quadrangle is on the National Register, the campus is a botanic garden, the columns are hauntingly beautiful as well as historic, and the architecture of White Campus is a textbook example of Neo-Gothic style. Our school is, quite simply, stunning.

Find a publication that lists "prettiest college campuses" that even mentions Mizzou. There isn't one.

So you only believe something if it is part of a list drawn up by people who have never traveled to the Midwest? Have you ever done your own research? Have you ever created your own informed opinion? Have you ever attended an architecture symposium and heard the praise for our campus? I thought not.

Oh wow...so all of the Midwestern schools that ARE on all of the lists, like IU (Bloomington), University of Chicago, and Ole Miss actually WERE noticed by the journalists that wrote the articles. But somehow the beauty of Mizzou just slipped their minds?

Who said anyone was going to this school exclusively because of its pretty campus? An architecture student expressed her/his opinion that she/he was in awe about Mizzou's architectural integrity. Have we come so far in shaming and belittling people that this student isn't allowed to have an opinion? That's pretty sad.

Rhodes College? You have got to be kidding. It's nothing more than an extension of high school. In fact, there are fewer people at that school than in my high school. It's hardly selective and 50% of the kids who go there went to private high schools. Not exactly a real world experience. Who would ever pay $57,000 a year (!!!!!!!!!!) to go there? The OP must be joking.

No, I grew up in Memphis and was around Rhodes my whole life. It's an excellent school and way more selective than the almost 80% acceptance rate at Mizzou.

^ That's rich coming from a Mizzou student. Our average ACT score for admission is 24.5 for the class of 2019. The average Rhodes ACT score was 29.

"First of all, they accept 50% of those who apply, which is extremely high for a small, private liberal arts college. Second, most of us understand that it's not whether you get it, it's whether you get out. With honors, And a job offer. And not in debt. And with a dozen recommendations from professors who actually have been in the work force. There are some departments at Rhodes that have four members! Finally, I defy you to find someone from outside the state of Tennessee who has ever heard of Rhodes. If you're going to come up with a school that is the epitome of selectivity, at least come up with one that someone, anyone, has heard of.
