This bears repeating....

Read this article by St. Louis Dispatch - February 04, 2016 12:15 am • By Koran Addo: MIZZOU BRACES FOR ENROLLMENT DROP IN WAKE OF CAMPUS DISCORD - It talks of decline in enrollment which they say they expected and yet other neighboring states are still seeing increases. The population peaked in 2009 but has flat lined and therefore so should attendance. Yet it increased each year since 2009. The article states a $20M loss in revenue is what they project. My friends and I out here in CA believe there are worthy issues just like everywhere else but what we saw was a Jesse Jackson extortion scheme that played out Nationally and will keep a black eye on Mizzou for decades to come.

You need to stop trying to tell people what they do or don't believe. You are not in any way correct about my thoughts no matter what you think you can read into my comments. I am also not "back pedaling," I never said anything about the protestors being black, that was you. I never even alluded to that being a problem, you inferred that was my stance. I simply said that people were scared of what happened and the threats of violence on campus and you immediately turned it into a race thing. People like you perpetuate racial tension by insisting that EVERYTHING has to come down to race, when that is not always the case.

EVERYthing comes down to race? Did I not just come up with two examples that were not at all race related and which did not scare any parents or potential students? And why in the world are you so intent on comparing campus protest, which was well within the rights of ANY citizen, to the police shootings and violence of Ferguson. There is NOT ONE THING related to Ferguson that occurred on our campus. So who is introducing race? And who is afraid of potential racial unrest? And who is dodging the issue? And here's another idea: why don't you delete the phrase "people like you" from your vocabulary? And while you're at it, if you want to have any credibility whatsoever you might want to stop using words like EVERYTHING (your caps, not mine).

You came up with examples from the 90's (my mother was at MU when streaking was an annual event) and something (Osama Bin Laden) that affected our entire nation, so no, those things did not create any fear because they weren't publicized. And I will stop using the phrase "people like you" when you stop telling me to "join my redneck brothers and sisters."

Or was it because they were WHITE students and a large group of black students (and their supporters) with a point of view is much, much scarier? Why don't you admit that the thought of minority students being taken seriously and having a real voice scares you. In fact, it scares you SO MUCH that you feel compelled to compare it to Ferguson. Is it really that threatening to you? Does that mean that you think police should start shooting protesters? I am completely confounded when people cannot see that we are a better campus when we are welcoming to all students, and when we take the concerns of black students as seriously as those of white students. What about that bothers you so much? It doesn't bother me at all that this might be a way of weeding out students who prefer to exist in their own little white bubble. That's not Mizzou, and if you don't like it, don't attend.

Is this the junior in high school from california again trying to make us look bad?
Newsflash hun, this stuff is going on all over the country, there have been many protests on different campuses and a ton of campuses supporting us. We are changing the way we address race and racism in this country and you can't avoid that. Mizzou may be experiencing some growing pains, but we have also been given the opportunity to rework our administration and advance this university. This could be a great thing.
YOU don't know what is like here, you are not a student. The people at this school may have different opinion's on CS1950 and all that has happened but we all agree that this is a great place and the media blew everything way out of proportion. It is exciting that we have students that care this much about the university.

The small town students (and their parents) who fear change might very well want to stay away from Mizzou, because we are a progressive, forward-thinking institution that wants to be a leader, not a follower, when it comes to equal treatment for all students. I couldn't be prouder to be a Mizzou student, a member of the Greek community and, perhaps most important, a world citizen who embraces progress. If you're not, please get out of the way.

It said the sharpest decline in applications and deposits was among out of state students, particularly from the Chicago area. Are they small town and small minded also? The university doesn't seem to think so since they are increasing recruiting for those areas.
