blm protests cause standard & poor's credit downgr

Students at Mizzou-
Those ridiculous protests has caused Standard & Poor's (rating agency) to downgrade the credit rating of your school from AA+ (stable) to AA+(negative). That means your uni is more unlikely to pay back public debt. Nice going, Tigers.

I'm a freshman at Mizzou and have been in touch with my guidance counselor at my old high school in suburban Chicago. She tells me that there is unprecedented interest in Mizzou this year and that of the 20+ students who applied, 16 (and counting) will be attending. And several of them chose Mizzou over Indiana, Purdue, Minnesota and Illinois. When I asked her why, she indicated that the incident in fall put our school on the map and that we are attracting a higher quality (read enlightened) student as a result. So while those of you who judge things in black and white might have been appalled, the image of Mizzou actually has improved significantly.

My sister is a senior in high school where we're from in Atlanta and she tells me the same thing. Maybe it's time for Mizzou students to stop listening to their reactionary parents and pay attention to the big picture. I'm proud to be a Mizzou student and what happened this fall only cemented my pride.

Then leave. No one, and I mean NO ONE, is holding a gun to your head. If you can't see how the image of this school has improved in the past several years, then god help you. Do you really think what happened in fall is going to keep employers from hiring you? It hasn't hurt me. I have three internship offers I'm weighing and my roommate, who is a senior, has several job offers, including two from recruiters who are new to this campus. I went to a high school that is nationally ranked, where 97 percent of students go on to a four-year university. I chose mizzou because it is THE BEST school in the nation for my major. Maybe it's time for you to stop listening to your narrow-minded friends and start opening your eyes. A school that pays attention to the rights of minorities has an extremely strong upside. What about that do you NOT understand?

There are LOTS of journalism majors out there. Do you really believe there is only one? And, for your information, the majors out there are as relevant as ever. Convergence, strat comm, radio and TV -- these students are getting multiple job offers. Why would that surprise you???????

As a Junior in HS in California, I can tell you that 4 Senior friends had visited the campus last Summer and loved it. The In State Residency Program is another great attractor. But after last Fall’s protest and the other news swirling around campus have, all 4 Seniors are looking at dropping Mizzou from their final selections. Some come from conservative families and some do not but there are obvious issues at this school.
My sister goes to UGA and they are laughing at the predicament you are in. I am told by her friends not to apply there as that school is messed up. The local kids from a lot of the better schools in GA that send them to UGA on Hope Scholarships are not being pushed or recommending not to apply to Mizzou for at least the near future by their counselors.

Read this article by St. Louis Dispatch - February 04, 2016 12:15 am • By Koran Addo: MIZZOU BRACES FOR ENROLLMENT DROP IN WAKE OF CAMPUS DISCORD - It talks of decline in enrollment which they say they expected and yet other neighboring states are still seeing increases. The population peaked in 2009 but has flat lined and therefore so should attendance. Yet it increased each year since 2009. The article states a $20M loss in revenue is what they project. My friends and I out here in CA believe there are worthy issues just like everywhere else but what we saw was a Jesse Jackson extortion scheme that played out Nationally and will keep a black eye on Mizzou for decades to come.

I grew up in Missouri and my family moved to Charlotte when I was in high school. I always planned to go to Mizzou to be closer to home. I wouldn't go now if you paid me.

First, what is a junior in high school from California doing on our greekrank page

second, I would say the students that actually go to Mizzou are a better source to get opinions from than someone random in Georgia that only sees what the media shows.

Um, when should I start looking at GR? Just checking out the vibe of a few schools I am interested in. I start applying in August. So your first statement wasn't well thought out. As for talking to other kids, there are a couple I know indirectly and will reach out to this summer.
Just saying Mizzou doesn’t look good to others outside of your area. What I am reading and talking to my parents, it will get worse before it gets better.
It’s still high on my list as the people I met were great and the campus was prettier than Bama and UGA. Just wish Columbia was more like Athens.
