how many times??????
by: RealityCheckHow many times do we have to say it. If you are interested in joining a sorority, the BEST thing you can do is go through formal rush in August before your freshman year. If your grades and activities in high school were good you will have the best chance of making it into a house. The NEXT BEST thing you can do it get excellent grades your freshman year and go through formal rush in August before your sophomore year. The WORST thing you can do is go through informal rush. The houses that do informal are among the worst at Mizzou, they generally just want to fill empty spots due to girls flunking our or dropping out and they often just choose friends of friends instead of meeting all of the girls who are interested and taking the best of the lot. In fact, I would suggest that if you can't do formal rush, don't bother.

If you need to beef up your numbers for whatever reason, why is it so difficult for a house to throw a party and meet the girls who are interested in joining rather than just inviting friends? I mean, if your house's finances are in such dire straits that you can't afford 1 frickin' party, god help you. And to girls who have signed up for informal and who have contacted houses via email only to get no response, here's a hint. It's not the kind of house you would want to join anyway. Wait for August.

I'm in a top house and I couldn't agree more. Unless PanHel can fix informal rush, it shouldn't be allowed to happen. And if you are considering a house that only invites friends to informal events, well, don't complain when you realize your house is full of cliquey, mediocre girls whose only strength was going to high school with someone who pledged a less than average house.
