grade comparison-ridiculous

by: Ha

Compared to other schools, our 'top' grades don't even come close to comparing. And how many people really know exactly how these grades are calculated. If you did you would know that our top-and bottom- houses are really not that far apart. Please comment only if you KNOW how our grades are calculated. And remember, a 3.4 and 3.1 are not that far apart(and before you spout off, unless you have a 3.9 or higher, it is not recommended that you put your gpa on your resume. And you certainly won't put 3.215, so just round everything out). Silly conversation. Not quit worrying about the fractions of points these houses are apart and go have some fun. And fyi, I am in one of the top 5 houses. Some in my house like to claim top spot, but most know when we are talking gpa's this close, and everything that factors into it, it doesn't really matter too much

This is how grades are calculated. Every member's gpa for the semester are reported and added together. Then it is divided by the number of members whose grades were included. It's not that hard. I think determining an average was covered in 4th grade. As for difference between the top and bottom Greek GPAs, if you have ever taken a stats class you would know the difference very definitely is statistically significant. And, yes, GPA matters. So, nice try, Alpha Phi.

You are wrong. Do your homework. EXACTLY how are they reported-and calculated? Guess you are not as smart as you think you are. Oh, and did you think about retention? And how many freshman, sophomores, etc. Do you know WHY there are fluctuations each semester? Ya, didn't think so. Of course anyone knows how to AVERAGE, you are correct, 4th graders do. And I guess that's where your knowledge stopped. And way to comment twice in a row pretending to be different people. And I'm definitely not an Alpha Phi. But why don't you go get more specific facts, you made a fool of yourself, good thing this is an anonymous site.

TO THEABOVE IMPATIENT PERSON^^^ Are you kidding me? Did you really spend that much time on this board last night, and waiting for my reply to how grades are calculated?! After I posted, I left. Although I did not go out I did not get back on the internet until now. I 'socialized' with people last night-Socializing is healthy, this board is not. I guess we now know who the troll is because there was an awful lot of activity by ONE person last night from what I'm seeing today.
You assumed grades were calculated in the most basic, as you said, 4th grade manner possible. Most involved in greek life know it is much more involved, complicated and thus inaccurate than that. Re read my post and better yet, GET INVOLVED so you are off this board and doing something constructive and healthy rather than trolling this board.

Still waiting. You said I was wrong. So even though you are the most popular girl in the world, it's time to prove it. How, exactly, are they calculated? Because I am the scholarship chair for our house (and, yes, I stayed in last night), I'm pretty sure I got it right. But because you felt the need to ridicule my ignorance, do tell how it's done.

I just chatted with you on the other post! I agree with the above posters, you are on this board way too much! And you are your houses scholarship chair? Well gee, we could probably figure you out pretty easily then! And I'm pretty sure most houses strongly advise members to stay away, and especially off this board! If you are in a house, on the board AND spending so much time-night and day to be exact, on this board you have a problem. Go bond with your sisters and stop trying to start drama with every house. And btw, I'm not even involved in greek life here-I just like to see the drama a one man show can cause!

She's the most popular girl in the world because she has SO many friends who insisted that she SOCIALIZE with them and she was just TOO TOO busy to answer the damn question. And then she made fun of the person who actually stayed in to study because she just isn't very POPULAR. So what we have is a troll who is on this site constantly who makes up friends and makes up claims and calls people names -- and yet she expects us to believe she is TOO BUSY to post. C'mon.

Wow chill there girl! Clearly you treat this board as a job, I think most people don't visit it every day, much less multiple times a day! By this point I would think you would have looked for the info yourself!
As has been mentioned previously, as well as on other posts, the way chapters 'report' their information varies. If it were as simple as every house reports every single member the results would be far more accurate and meaningful. I think the latest report shows the inconsistencies between houses reporting so I really don't feel the need to expand upon that any further. It seems everyone, but you, gets that. However, since you are a chapter scholar chair who does the reporting for your house, you know how you can, should, etc report members and grades. Now give it a rest. But I am ready for you to go crazy with your response-maybe go for a run first to let off some steam!

So after our local scholarship chair checked in to again relay her thoughts apparently pan hell has talked to al chaptes thus her no longer being around. She clarified how houses can inaccurately report membership and grades. This is an on going issue with all campuses, not just mizzou. So take all grade posts with a grain of salt. Grades have changed. Tiers have changed. Nothing depends on anything until you go through recruitment and choose the house best for you! Good luck-this boards rank means NOTHING!

By: yikes tho
by: ^Jan 20, 2016 9:30:11 PM

How insecure are you? Aphi threatening your spot? Sorry but as much as I respect our top house for grades (Theta - you guys are so consistent in academics, you're top every single year and I think that's awesome - Anyone who can kick ass like that over and over deserves a spot in top tier) our grades SUCK overall! Truly they do! So quit being snobby cause all these people posting obviously aren't that smart themselves! Unless you're in j or b school and getting a 3.7+ OR you're going to Mizzou because of a personal reason (staying close to home, full ride), you're just not that bright or you'd be elsewhere. And all y'all claiming we don't know stats because we think your grades are irrelevant, I'm studying to become an actuary and have passed the first exam. I bet you don't know what that is so go ahead and look it up before you try and discredit me. ADPi we know it's you on here, you detest APhi for being your complete opposite and I understand grades are your only time to shine but give it a rest. You're still lower mid.

Most SEc chapters start at a gpa of 3.28 and go up. Sorority heavy universities have a gpa average of 3.4-4.0. Fact. Mizzou is awesome since we pull in majority mid westerners -but our greek life shouldn't brag about the highest house gpa(only being .2 from all othe houses) at a 3.4

hahahaha now I totally get this. I am a senior in high school and although I'm a pretty good student, I'm not the best. but I do know there are different ways to calculate 'averages'. I wouldn't think a huge university with a huge greek population would just do basic math when you have people transferring in, out, going in active then active, studying abroad, etc. the grade thing makes more sense now but i'll admit it didn't think there was as much of a range on missouris website as there was on others. everyone is pretty close. and I get the person challenging things lol. of course there is more to it than adding and dividing. still think its hella weird you all fight like this but whatever

by: Nice tryJan 21, 2016 8:51:17 PM

Just answer the damn question, bit ch. How are averages calculated? You called someone a fool because she said that the chapter reports the active students in the house, the university gets their semester grades, and then comes up with an average. If that's not it, what is? Lots of us are waiting for your answer. And while you're at it, tell us the GPAs at other universities.
