I got a GPA of 2.94 this semester which I'm really not happy about. My high school GPA was a 3.75. Do I have a good chance of getting into a sorority through informal or am I screwed?

My guess is that you got distracted and forgot the reason you were in college. If you have trouble staying focused and party too hard, sorority life might not be for you. I would recommit to good grades next semester, aim for a 4.0 (it's very possible. This school really isn't that difficult) and then go through formal rush in fall.

Aww :( Don't beat yourself up. A lot of people have adjustment issues their first semester of college and it affects their grades. I will be honest with you here. As much as I would love to encourage any girl to go Greek i don't know if spring is the right time for you. 2.94 isn't horrible, but would be considered a grade risk for most chapters and lessen your chances of a bid. If you're really intent on going Greek in the spring and you are not picky and want to have a sisterhood and be involved maybe look into COB for Sigma. One of my friends had pretty horrible grades and was offered a bid in COB as a grades risk. If they like you well enough it could work out. Realistically though if you'd like to maximize your options, I would hold off on joining a sorority in spring raise your grades up a lot higher and sign up for formal recruitment on fall. That's your best chance. If you were to get a bid on the spring getting your grades up and being a new member in a sorority can be conflicting.

But honestly, I didn't even party too much or lose focus. I just had hard classes! That's what sucks. And I tried SO hard because I knew there would be a lot of competition!
