recs

by:

With one semester left of high school, college is on my mind, and I can't wait to be at Mizzou. I want to be a part of Greek life, and I was wondering when I should start looking for and sending in recs.

Look now because some alums aren't as willing to write them. Honestly though they don't matter a whole lot getting into a house... They don't hurt, but don't think having a rec will be the reason you get a bid.

You are connected to more alum than you think. There are plenty of alum in churches, high schools (teachers), your mother's friends, your dad's friends, your grandma and her friends, your friends mothers, etc. You have more of a network in the greek community than you think, you just have to work a little bit for it. When I was gathering my recs I tried to get at least one from every house. I asked three alum from each house where I could. I gave the person I wanted to write me a rec an envelope already addressed to the sorority with my resume, a picture of me, and they would put their rec in and send it in. That might be overkill for some people because its not the same as southern schools (I live 45 minutes from Ole Miss so thats what everyone told me to do)

Start looking now, then send them in around June. But you have to give them some time to write them so don't wait until the last minute. I had an alumni association assist with mine and they requested that we get them our packets (resume, transcript, headshots, etc.) by graduation.
