future alpha phi?

by:

I went through fall recruitment and on pref day suicided alpha phi (I know, not smart). I didn't necessarily connect with the other two houses left, so I chose to suicide alpha phi! I was hoping to receive a bid from that house, but was unfortunately released on the morning on bid day. I would love to be an alpha phi more than anything!!! hopefully they do informal, but I know I need to have inside connections within the house. I don't really know anyone in alpha phi though...do you all think I might have a chance?

Honestly yeah. Making it to preference day with a chapter means they can see you as a sister. Despite the truth in that, there are bid lists and girls are ranked, and you unfortunately rank or score into one of their spots for a bid. Trust me doing that is not process so don't be discouraged. APhi has done COB all 3 years at Mizzou I've been here. Try again! You obviously embodied what an APhi is and making it to preference means you wer seriously considered. Email their VP recruitment and ask about COB. If you can get info from any APhi even if you don't know them that well that can help you get your foot in the door to attend their COB events. Also I want to take the time to encourage you to go to COB more than just APhi. You obviously want to be in a sorority, give others consideration. If you like APhi then I would suggest going for DG and Zeta too. Best of luck I hope you end up wearing APhi letters come next month and if not them some other letters you love just as much if not more!

APhi COBs because it is not a very good house. It loses lots of girls who can't make grades and also some who leave college because it is just too hard or their heart isn't in it. Truly, you can do better. Suiciding was a mistake, but perhaps you should expand your horizons and try a house that has higher standards even if the girls aren't as pretty.

Here's a thought, maybe she wants to join a sorority for sisterhood and the connection she felt when she went through rush. I'm not an Alpha Phi but my sorority isn't known for grades either and guess whaaaat... not everyone cares about their sister's grades. I'm a 4.0 student and have plenty of sisters that are as hardcore about school as me, always can find a group of girls I can study with. Then I have other friends who are sweet as pie but just not overly smart or overly driven. Love all these girls to death and wouldn't trade my sisters or my experience in the sorority for anything. I find it seriously annoying that people will come on here and try and say a sorority is better because of grades. Personally I couldn't care less when I rushed and I couldn't care less now. There's tons of brilliant minds in my sorority and even more genuine hearts.

You're missing the point. What good does it do to bond with a sister only to have her flunk out or drop out of school? Let's be honest, the houses with the best grades rarely COB because they keep their members. It's that easy. No one is saying a sorority is better because it values academics and has a great GPA. But we are saying that those sororities offer more stability and that the houses that COB tend to be a revolving door of membership. Besides, who are YOU to say that someone who has a brilliant mind can't have a genuine heart? That's a cheap shot.

There's a huge difference between flunking out of school and having a 3.2 GPA. I know only one sister that flunked out and it was sad, yes, but she went to community college for a year and came back and is doing a lot better. Considering the size of our sororities that's pretty significant. I know a lot of girls with lower 3 GPAs who are content and awesome girls and certainly aren't about to drop out.

And FYI to the pnms who keep getting fed this bs, the difference between the top GPA and the bottom is .2. Yes, that's right, point two. The sororities on here telling you that you need to raise your standards for wanting to rush APhi (3.2) have a GPA of 3.4 at MOST. These girls are likely somewhere in the middle where the difference is a whole .1. Regardless, their arguments are just entirely invalid.

If members don't leave because they drop out or flunk out, why does the house COB? Are you telling me women leave because the sisterhood sucks or they feel it isn't worth the dues? That's pretty pathetic. There is a reason a house COB's, and most of them aren't very flattering.

I wrote the post about brilliant minds and I would've been insulting myself if I said brilliant minds couldn't be genuine! Of course they can be and often are, if a high GPA says anything it's that the girl has her priorities straight. Your argument about better stability would definitely be the only valid argument I've heard about how grade cutoff help out a sorority (although I don't see the problem with COB.) Unfortunately a lot of people on here are saying that girls with higher GPAs are better and more worthy (ex "raise your standards.")

As the person who wrote this, I would like to say i want to join Aphi because they kept me until the end; whereas other houses didn't. They saw something in me and I appreciate that! If I had my first choice, it would be adpi or axo but I know there's a slim chance. So I'm hopeful for Aphi

Why in the world would you have wanted adpi or axo over Alpha Phi?

By most standards ADPi and AXO are heads and shoulders above APhi.

In what way... There's a .1 and less than .1 difference in GPA's... They're not as social, they aren't as pretty. I can't judge other sisterhoods but I know I've heard Alpha Phi's doing great things for each other. Their philanthropy is all on par. So how on earth are they stronger?

ADPi ranked #4 in spring grades, AXO ranked #6 and Alpha Phi ranked #13, which was below the sorority average. Retention rates and selectivity are higher for both ADPi and AXO than APhi. ADPi has extremely high standards (including a strict grade cutoff) and gets the girls they aim for, and AXO is making great strides in this area. APhi is pretty much known for being pretty, but that's it. People who join a sorority because they want to be in a pretty house might choose APhi, but that's a weak reason, especially considering every sorority on this campus has pretty girls.

^^^^^^^ says the girl who couldn't make the grade cut. And here's a news flash: ADPi is a strong, selective house and you can find a great sisterhood in EVERY house.

I have a 4.0 in finance, so ADPi's 3.4 arts students don't really impress me, sorry. Every sorority is selective based on different criteria (except the bottom tier) GPhi and APhi happen to hold looks higher than GPA. Maybe that's why they both have so many haters.

Adpi and axo are both well rounded houses. They offer much more than just one thing which is why they're more popular than houses like aphi that can only offer a social life. Adpi and axo are not only better in grades and involvement, but they have a fair share of pretty girls and party girls. Especially axo. They're the house to watch right now.

Except Aphi is much more popular than both of them. AXO is improving but they're still nowhere near the pretty houses which they seem to be trying to push on everyone
