It doesn't really matter too much for top houses of you have a Rec or not... They will cut you with or without

I had 2 recs for most houses and at least one for every house but tri sig and honestly, I have no idea how much it helped. All I know is that it felt good knowing that I had done something to help myself since you feel pretty out of control about the whole thing.

Two is better than one, recs may get you through the first round, at least everyone I know with recs had a fuller schedule after the first round than those without. If it's a stellar rec it can help even more. I.E., one of my rec writers was amazing to the point that the president of that house came to talk to me the first day. Recs help them to pair you with girls that are similar to you, which can help spur better conversation which gives you a better chance because the conversations matter most! I say do what you can to get recs because they can't hurt you! Don't get more than like 3 for one house that's excessive.

I got 1 to 2 recs for every house except for tri sig and phi mu, and for one other because i thought i was too smart/ not enough of a partier for them. Joke is on me because i ended up being totally wrong in my assumptions and i joined a house i didn't even get a rec for.

Recs are very important in my house. It's because they tell so much more than the official rush form. Do yourself a favor and aim for at least one, if not two recs per house. I wouldn't do more than two, however, because that's overkill. If you know more than two alums from any sorority, ask the two you are closest to do the rec. As someone said earlier, having a rec is a good way to assure you are doing all you can and to not feel powerless. And when women wonder why someone was asked back to a top house who doesn't seem that impressive on the surface, it probably is the rec that made the difference.
