The nursing acceptance rate is almost 70%!! Not selective get over it! Neither is j-school which is also over 50%. However, j-school is in fact more selective, numbers don't lie.

Also let's remember it gets really high marks on some obscure ranking no one has ever heard of because it's REALLY CHEAP. It's the best program money can't buy.

I've been dropping in from time to time this week and find all of this fascinating. Is anyone else amused, as I am, that there is a person who dares to compare the Missouri J-School, which is the oldest and most respected in the nation (if not the world), with a nursing school that barely cracks the Top 50 in a legitimate ranking. It's not about how hard it is to get in to a school, it's what you do when you graduate. And publications involving Missouri grads have earned more Pulitzers than any other school. There isn't a major news outlet in the nation that doesn't have a Mizzou grad on its staff. The same cannot be said for the nursing school.

You require only a 3.0 for the everrrr so prestigious mizzou nursing.

That's also the required gpa for the jschool as well. 3.0.

Who is the idiot who keeps saying 70% of applicants get accepted?? Where's your statistic for that? Because that's extremely far from true. There are SO many applicants and only so many spots because the schools not that big. So yes it's extremely difficult to get into and you have to be an outstanding student. No, for gods sake it doesn't mean the nursing program at mizzou is the best thing ever and better than the j school. It merely means there's simply not as many spots because there's not as many teachers, which realistically is kind of a bad thing on the nursing schools part. So they have to be more selective. The j school has tons of amazing top notch teachers who want to teach and can therefore accommodate more students and be more lenient with who they admit. Does that make sense idiots? So many of my amazing, talented friends were rejected from the nursing school while most of my friends who wanted to go journalism were lucky enough to be able to. And just to reiterate, I am NOT saying the nursing school is better ok. It just simply does not have the same faculty to student ratio that the jschool has so they have no choice but to reject so many people.

I don't know about you, but I don't think there are many nursing schools who are interested in taking B or C students. Do you want someone assisting in an ER who can figure out how much lidocaine to administer only 80% of the time? Or someone who can't multiply a 15-second pulse to get the overall heart rate? What makes those people who can't get all A's think they should be a factor in life or death situations. And when push comes to shove its all about graduates passing the boards anyway.

The statistic came from petersons.com they specialize in college statistics. Also the j school does have a crappy average, the only (semi) prestigious program (I've heard of) at mizzou would be business. Also 3.0-3.5 is the average for people entering mizzou's nursing program. Would we prefer to have smarter nurses? Yes, but those in the science field with 4.0's tend to lean towards more prestigious jobs. And a lot of nurses end up doing more dirty work than "assisting surgeons" but keep dreaming!

Business? Prestigious? That's pretty funny considering the school was once named after one of the most corrupt scions of business who almost single-handedly brought Enron down, putting thousands out of work and costing hundreds of thousands of people their life savings. But, hey, you just keep thinking that.

The acceptance rate for the business school is less than half that of the j school and wayyy less than half of the nursing school's. And hey, business and corruption tend to go hand in hand. Prestigious is probably the wrong word, I meant mainly that it's the only truly competitive program that I know of.
