gpa cut off for middle top tier sororities

by:

What is the gpa cut off for the majority of the sororities at Mizzou? Will a 3.5 be good enough to be seriously considered by every house?

I had a 3.75 GPA and was cut from the top and most of the middle houses throughout the week. There's SO much competition now!

Hey girl! I had a 3.3 GPA but was super involved in high school and just showed my personality well. The only houses I was cut from were ADPI, Theta, & Pi Phi on the first day.

Honestly I had a 3.75 GPA and on the first round these are the houses that cut me:
Tri Delta, Pi Phi, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Chi Omega, and Theta
Next round:
ADPi, Gphi, Delta Gamma

my point is, it's so different for everyone! But if you have attributes that sororities like, they will keep you even if your gpa isn't up to par. It honestly just depends on the sorority and how much you like you! I know it doesn't really help, but it's true.

And it's also true on who you know!!!!!!!

^^^^^^ That's true in a limited number of houses. And if I were you I would stay far, far away from the houses that only take friends. They are cliquey and not very welcoming. I know, because my roommate pledged a house like that in August and even though she is warm and friendly and pretty and very smart, she wasn't from St. Louis and wasn't part of their inner circle. She would go to visit the house and no one would talk to her. Finally she got sick of trying and sick of crying about it, so she quit. She's much happier. It's their loss.

A 3.5 is fine! No GPA will guarantee you won't get cut, but if you have below a 3.5 your options are likely to be limited because of it. I had a 4.0 and theta, tridelt, and kappa cut me the first day... Pi phi, chi o, ADPi cut me the second. It's about where your personality fits well, not your GPA (provided you meet their minimum)

A high GPA won't guarantee you WILL be asked back, but a low GPA will guarantee you WON'T be asked back. I am in a top tier house and while GPA is important, your ACT score is even more important. That's because in today's academic environment where grade inflation is a very real thing, we are looking for people who are legitimately smart, not just those who might get good grades at a school where you get an A unless you really screw up. For that reason our ACT cutoff is about a 29. If you have a high GPA with rigorous course work (mostly AP classes, two years of calc, physics, etc.) then you likely won't be cut for grades, but it also depends on whether that is a weighted or unweighted GPA. So I guess what I'm saying is that it's all relative, but a 3.5 weighted GPA without a bunch of honors and AP courses just won't get you very far.

Only if you are trying to be a Theta! My house could care less about ACT, but we do want to have girls who's GPA is above a 3.2, but ultimately personality is what we really look for

Not a Theta. I should also add that grades and ACTs are just the first step. Activities and honors also are important. But the biggest deciding factor is personality and whether there is a connection when we talk to you during rush. And also, though this isn't talked about very much, what you can offer to us -- as in your individual talents. We would never take a pledge class, for example, that doesn't have some people who stand out in music, because that's big part of sorority life/rush. Same is true for athletics or drama or writing...

^ if your sorority life is based on music than your likely an AXO (a musical sorority by history), and they are NOT top tier

Music is a part of every sorority, from rush to Greek Week. Not just AXO.

Someone with a 3.5 high school gpa wouldn't stand apart from the crowd. She wouldn't get far in our house unless she had a lot more to offer in other areas. But someone with a 3.5 in college, where people actually earn their grades, would probably be a plus.

I had a 3.4 (3.6 weighted) GPA and was medium involved in high school and I'm in a "good" house which is also known for having really good grades...so honestly it depends because my GPA was definitely not as high as the GPA of the majority of the girls in my pledge class. But sororities judge you off of so many other things too. I think you'll be fine!

You can't possibly know that, can you?
