I know houses don't like to admit it because they think that it's something to be ashamed about but so far who are the houses that have COBed??? Please please tell me I'm dying to be involved in greek life.

Houses aren't ashamed to add to new members! Total now resets after each bid day, so some chapters end up having room for handful more once the scale slides. TBH, most houses probably aren't coming right now though! Most ARE above total so they aren't allowed to! And those with a few spots probably filled them with friends of members quickly OR are just going to wait until spring when they have more spots. So instead of COBing lets say 5 girls this semester, they'll wait and COB a pledge class of 15 next semester once some women graduate or drop. I know it's hard to wait, but I have a hunch they'll be some open spots come spring. My advice would be to be open to ALL the houses, even if you didn't like one during formal! Informal is SO different!

We won't really know, will we, because COBing and spring rush are so mysterious. Most of the good houses don't do it and those that do keep it under wraps and just take friends of members. It really is discriminatory and it really leaves the Greek community open to criticism with good reason. If your house doesn't have any minority members, or just one or two, there's not much of a likelihood the process will be open to women of color, is it? I think the whole thing stinks and PanHel needs to start doing what it is paid to do: make rush an open and fair process.

I'm sorry you feel that way! I'm pretty sure Panhellenic now regulates COB in the spring (maybe this has changed!). It's never meant to be discrimantory! Chapters simply recruit women members already like! Also what do you mean by "good" chapters? They're all good. If you chose to drop out of formal recruitment because you didn't like your options then that's your choice, but then you forfeited your chances of ever being greek. If you had trusted the process chances are high you would have received a bid. Also, I'm alarmed by your implications of racism. Formal recruitment is open to EVERYONE. It is fair. It is regulated. And ALL of our chapters value character and don't discriminate based on race. I'm sorry if you have had an experience that would make you feel otherwise, but I think you are projecting your own views onto a very fair, high-functioning, loving greek system.

It's hardly open to everyone if 1) you have to have a best friend in the house and 2) there are no minorities in the house. Whether it's de facto or de jure discrimination, it's discrimination nevertheless because people of color don't have a chance.

I know Tri Sigma has been doing informal/COB for a while! Alpha Phi did and already took some new members, same with Kappa Delta. I think DG might and Phi Mu is getting ready to.

Maybe they are! I would think they would all be above total, but maybe new members have been dropping because they realized greek life isn't for them after all! All of those houses have beautiful women (of all races, sizes and personalities!) If this is true, then maybe this lost little duckling can find her home! Unless of course she considers all of these houses "bad."

They all do. Even what you consider top tier. Yes, tri delt, chi o-they have already taken girls. Most houses have-if they say they haven't question the numbers.

Well, Tri Delt may need to COB. We have already seen new members talking on here about how sad they are and how left out they feel in the pc cliques. Maybe they did actually drop. Not all that glitters is gold

Yes, they all have. only speaking only for tri delt-they will not be initiated until spring. but they will participate in everything else with other new members-just not big/little reveal and initiation this fall. (they are not being included in activities leading up to that.) and fyi-this is standard for all houses.

Chi O hasn't COBed. There's nothing wrong with COBing, but it's not true that all houses have or will COB this semester.
