get over it
by: TrixieWhy does COBing have such a bad reputation? There is no shame in being a house with fewer than the average number of members (310, I believe). There are all kinds of reasons for that to happen and even the best houses from time to time have issued COBs. It also is an excellent opportunity at a second chance for people who might not have used the best judgment during rush. So let's embrace COBing, not treat it as a negative. In fact, let's get it out in the open so that it can be done fairly instead of clandestinely, and make sure that it is about more than just who knows whom. That's the best way to guarantee no discrimination takes place and to keep our Greek system squeaky clean.

I couldn't believe this sentence actually was written on greekrank:
"Otherwise, how do we know houses aren't just pretending to be responsible but actually picking who they want in a discriminatory way?"
I hope the person who wrote this realizes that discrimination means recognizing the difference between one girl and another and choosing only one to be your sister. In other words, all of recruitment is discriminatory. Houses don't invite girls back just by chance. They figure out what their house needs and which girls have those attributes.

I would like to see all houses COBing actually get in touch with all of those who register, and I think PanHell should insist on it. Otherwise, how do we know houses aren't just pretending to be responsible but actually picking who they want in a discriminatory way? And don't tell me that would be a waste of effort to just fill a few spots. The recruitment process should be fair and open to anyone and if a house is going to do it, they should play by the rules.
