get over it

by:

Why does COBing have such a bad reputation? There is no shame in being a house with fewer than the average number of members (310, I believe). There are all kinds of reasons for that to happen and even the best houses from time to time have issued COBs. It also is an excellent opportunity at a second chance for people who might not have used the best judgment during rush. So let's embrace COBing, not treat it as a negative. In fact, let's get it out in the open so that it can be done fairly instead of clandestinely, and make sure that it is about more than just who knows whom. That's the best way to guarantee no discrimination takes place and to keep our Greek system squeaky clean.

Because it used to be only bad houses like phi mu and zeta,
Or new houses like sigma, and sk, participated.

Now more and more houses cob, but the stigma of the past is still there.

Let's bring it out into the open. I envision that as a way of improving the system as a whole.

Ladies-please go to the Mizzou PHA website if you are interested in COBing. They have an enrollment link to register. Looks like those in charge are indeed trying to get the informal recruitment process out in the open.

I would like to see all houses COBing actually get in touch with all of those who register, and I think PanHell should insist on it. Otherwise, how do we know houses aren't just pretending to be responsible but actually picking who they want in a discriminatory way? And don't tell me that would be a waste of effort to just fill a few spots. The recruitment process should be fair and open to anyone and if a house is going to do it, they should play by the rules.

I don't think PHA could require such a thing. Chapters have full autonomy when it comes to their membership selection procedures. I suppose PHA could pass a new recruitment rule that says anyone wanting to take new members in the spring would need to paeticipate in a structured informal recruitment process. But I'm not even sure if that would be kosher per NPC rules. Certainly I don't think PHA can ban chapters from COBing as and when they choose.

At any rate, if such a move were proposed, I suspect a lot of our national organizations would have some things to say about it.

That is absolutely not true. PanHell structures fall rush, requires when women can sign up, what they pay, what they wear and where they go and when. No one wants to ban houses from COBing. We simply want them to play by the rules and not discriminate.

Do some research on NPC unanimous agreements. Formal recruitment is completely different from informal.

I couldn't believe this sentence actually was written on greekrank:

"Otherwise, how do we know houses aren't just pretending to be responsible but actually picking who they want in a discriminatory way?"

I hope the person who wrote this realizes that discrimination means recognizing the difference between one girl and another and choosing only one to be your sister. In other words, all of recruitment is discriminatory. Houses don't invite girls back just by chance. They figure out what their house needs and which girls have those attributes.

Your the idiot cuz that's exactly what happens!!! Very few like maybe 2 houses were responsible last year in getting back to the girls that actually signed up for informal, the majority did not. So many of them just kept it hush and invited friends only and thats BS.
Further recruitment shouldn't be discriminatory. PNM's should have a number instead of a name so current members can't look at social media, unknown GPA (just have at least the minimum requirement) and since current members think their that great at picking a sister in 15 minutes-go for it!!! The houses would then be a real house instead of trying to act like a corporation - how boring!!!

She calls herself "idiot alert," and yet her post is one of the stupidest I have ever seen on this site. It pains me when someone is so darn proud of their own ignorance.
