Why in the world would you want someone in your house who didn't want to be there? The only reason someone suicides is that they feel they have no choice. It's better to suicide than to "maximize your options," open that envelope on bid day and realize you would rather not join that house. Better to decide that ahead of time than take someone else's place who might have been enthusiastic about that house. I think people who suicide are doing the Greek system a favor.

It's sad that girls don't realize that just because certain houses are ranked lower than others that they are still excellent. Not every house can win every event every year. That's silly. If you got involved with the house, though, you'd be able to help them do better.

I think Rachel just means that it's good that girls who aren't team players and ones who are kind of superficial and shallow won't really be meaningful members of the greek community.

Dear Sad

Isn't the whole idea of sororities to be superficial and shallow and feel a little superior? Come on now. I wish everyone would be at least a little honest here. Of course thee are nice girls in houses, but the whole system is really rude and shallow when you take 2 seconds go think about it. I mean who the hell do we think we are judging young woman based on short conversations and phony rec letters written by their moms friends and grades from highschoool? Sisterhood is a pretend convept. I have met a handful of nice girls but there's no way I will ever consider the other 290 girls in my house as sisters. For all the broken hearts that got cut; I just wonder how many just feel like they are letting their moms down.
