what kind of girls will my daughter be influenced

by:

After reading all of the discussions, I realize everyone is defending and competing for their chapter, as they should. Is there anyone out there to give me an honest opinion on how my daughter will be influenced by her chapter? I do not want to let you know what chapter and get some unbiased opinions. What examples will be set of her if she were a......? What are the stereotypes.....?(not necessarily fact, I know) Who will encourage the best grades? Who is the most mature and fun chapter?

Your daughter is in college now. She's going to be influenced wherever she goes and by whoever she hangs out with. It's time to let her become her own woman and make the choices she will make. Regardless of Greek life, she will be faced with difficult decisions. Some she will make good choices in, others she will make bad choices in.

I can promise you this though, the tighter you hang on and try and control her, much like you're doing here, the more you push her to act out and rebel. Trust that you raised her right and let her do her own thing.

Oh great, parenting advice from a college kid. Really??

Just some advice from a girl who had an overbearing mom and did exactly what I described. Just some advice from a girl who sees this happen every single year. And just some advice from someone who understands that you don't have to be a parent to know how a girl your own age would react in a similar situation.

Wow mom! Must really doubt your parenting skills to be asking a bunch of anonymous mean girls what sort of influence we'd have on your kid. Don't worry, I'll have her smoking PCP before parents weekend <3

I understand, mom, that you have a huge void in your life. When your little girl was in kindergarten you followed the bus to make sure she made it to school safely. When she was assigned school projects in third and fourth grade, you found a way to do them for her. When the nasty middle-school girls said nasty things about her you called the school to make sure she wouldn't have to fight her own battles. When it looked like she wouldn't qualify for National Honor Society you called all of her teachers to make sure they would help her get her GPA up. But your job is over. If you are sending her away to school you have to find a new life. Let her choose her own house and be who she wants to be. It's about time she loosens the noose you have around her neck.

Appreciate all the comments and advice from any age! As a parent, you realize they will come home a different person in many positive and negative ways. She will make mistakes and most I will not even know about. Trust and encouragement are key as she starts out this week!

What's your daughters first and last name so I can make sure to give her hell if she's in my house for having such a helicopter parent?

I've seen a lot of pathetic things on this awful website, but a mother trying to control her daughter's life long distance is the worst.

By: really?
by: Really?

especially if she's basing her question off of tiers on GR lol...I call BS on her post-not a mom-clearly one of the houses mentioned in the OP

I agree it's not really a mom at all. Just houses fishing for compliments.

This site is anonymous and you have no idea who is really posting. Maybe mom just needs some assurances. @mom, all the houses require good grades and have study hours they have to fulfill. If you want real advice talk to your friends or check greekchat. Not this hell hole

Dear Freshman Mom,

I am also a mom. I am here because I am involved in greek life on this campus as an advisor. I know your heart is in the right place, but please, you need to walk away from this site. It will do you no good and will only reinforce any qualms or concerns you may have. This is not the place to find comfort. This is not the place to get any kind of realistic opinions about anything.

Take the advice given to you by some peers of your daughter above. Give her the tools she needs to be successful, but let her choose to do what she will with those tools. She needs to mature, to learn, and to grow now. If she makes mistakes, you'll be there to help her, but you can't prevent all the mistakes and you definitely cannot cure them after the fact. Just be her support system, not her control system.

Best of luck.

Dear Greekrank,

Which top tier house will be best for my daughter? A little haughty there, aren't we? Relax there freshman mom, your daughter will probably be lucky to make the bottom tier.

What most of you are saying is that NONE of you talk to your moms? No is close to their parents and they should just stop talking to them? Seriously? I talk to my mom all the time. She's my MOTHER and any of you who are saying you don't is a liar. Yes, now that you are "all grown up" at 18, your parents just sent you off and never spoke to you again. hahahahahhahaha
