cut

by:

what the heck is up with everybody getting cut? I heard that everybody that had a 3.5 GPA or lower for cut. and I have friends with 4.0 is that got cut from the top houses. There are 2000 girls and only 700 didn't get cut from the houses they wanted. That means the houses will barely make quota.... what are the house is going to do are they going to do, give out extended bids?

Stop spreading rumors when you don't know the actual numbers. Only a few Panhellenic officers and advisors have the rush stats right now and 1) I doubt you are one of those 3 people and 2) if you are, you would know better than to post the info on GR. Any numbers you've heard are pure rumors.

The cuts were NOT worse this year. Mizzou uses RFM to determine how many PNM's are invited back to each house each day and RFM is designed to maximize the number of houses making quota and PNM's getting bids. Every year the top houses have to cut more girls because more PNM's rank them as 1's wanting to return.

What does seem worse is the number of snot-nosed PNM's this year who dropped out because they thought they were too good for the houses who invited the back. They are too immature to realize that being Greek is better than not being Greek and that they just turned down their best chance.

Where there is smoke there is fire. The computer that does RFM has been glitchy this year. It hasn't been functioning properly yielding harsh cuts and dropping girls.

@nah, since all 15 houses made quota for the first time in four years, I'd say the RFM computer system worked just fine this year.

Of the girls who did not complete the week, 9% were totally released by all chapters and 91% withdrew because they didn't like the invitafions they had left. That is not the computer's fault, sorry.

There's nothing wrong with the software. PNMs getting cut from the chapters they think they deserved is not a malfunction, it's RFM at work. Too bad they didn't keep an open mind.

GoGreek is correct. All sororities participate in the RFM system, which uses an algorithm based on historical statistics to determine how many PMs each chapter can release each night during recruitment. "Help" is misinformed about how it all works. Quota is determined by the number of PMs who sign intention cards after preference and then calculated so that the most number of chapters as possible achieve quota.

I heard that if I suicide I will be moved to the bottom of the list at the house I want which will decrease the odds of getting in that house. True or False?

Your place is the same on their bid list, but if you didn't list your other choices then that means if they reach quota before they get to your name you will not receive a bid. By not maximizing your options, you've given up your right to be a quota addition which sometimes allows PNMs to get into their first choice if their other choices have also filled quota before reaching their name. Your only hope is being high on their bid list, but that position will not change.

If you did not maximize your options and only listed one house, you took a huge gamble. Chapters don't know how you ranked them, but if the house you suicided fills to quota before they get to your name, you are out of luck.

@still_confused, the other posters are correct. Your bid list spot will not change as the houses do not know what order you ranked them. However, you have a pretty low chance of getting a bid so prepare yourself for the dreaded phone call tomorrow morning.

I am sorry you were not willing to give the other chapters who loved you a chance. Part of going to college is learning the consequence of your decisions and I hope you don't regret the big decision you made tonight by not listing all of your pref houses.

Yes, OP. The chapters "barely" make Quota--that signifies a strong recruitment. They can make massive cuts because even if they only invite back 150 girls, those 150 WILL put them first. So no need to invite an extra 700 to the party who were never going to get a bid in the first place. Let those girls be released from that house so they can use that spot to visit somewhere where they'll actually have a shot. Even the weaker recruiting groups maker bigger releases than you realize! They don't need 2000 women on preference in order to get quota of 100-200! A top recruiting chapter can bring back a few more than quota and honestly weaker ones really, based on how strong the pnm pool is, really only need to bring back 600 at most. If you played the game by the rules you'll find a home. If you're being a snob don't be surprised when you get a call tomorrow morning or aren't Greek for your time at mizzou! You aren't too good for any of the chapters here.

So let me get this straight.... It's perfectly fine for houses to cut, but when PNMs cut, they are considered egotisticle? Wake up.
