PNMS FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT SUICIDE. That is all I'm going to say, but this is coming from someone who knows the system.

Your friend is incorrect.

Maximizing your options is just about what you do after preference. You are not allowed to not maximize your options earlier in the week. It is only after preference that you can refuse to rank a chapter whose preference party you attended.

Attend 1 party, list that house on your MRABA, and you will either match them or be a quota addition.

Attend 2 parties, list both houses on your MRABA, and you will either match one of them or be a quota addition to one of them.
Attend 3 parties, list all three houses on your MRABA, and you will either match one of them or be a quota addition to one of them.

Last year there were 37 quota additions across the 15 houses at Mizzou. 37 women who wouldn't have been greek if they hadn't maximized their options. They have no idea they were quota additions, since there is nothing to mark them out as such. But there were 37 according to final reports.

If you lIST ALL your options after pref you are guaranteed to receive a bid from one of those chapters. You are on those houses bid list SOMEWHERE, it's a matter of the system figuring out where you match best. There ARE quota additions, you wouldn't ever know if you're one though. If you choose to be a little snob and only put one or two when you went to three then you do have a chance of not getting a bid anywhere. If someone gets a phone call morning of bid day it means they single intentionally preffed. If you play by the rules you'll get a bid somewhere! The system rewards you for trusting the system. If you decide you're too good for a house and don't list it then you've increased the chance the you end up without a bid anywhere. Put all your options down for the love of God.

First off this Isn't true as I know many girls who listed all their options on pref day and were left without a bid. It's rare, but can happen.

Secondly, while you should definitely maximize your options, DO NOT list a house you can absolutely not see yourself in, as the possibility is there that you could receive a bid from them and in turn drop after receiving it and steal a spot from a girl who actually mightve wanted it. And that is incredibly selfish. So only maximize your options if you will doubtlessly accept a bid from all houses you list.

You're clearly confused "no" and don't understand the system. It's impossible someone who lists all three gets none. Impossible. That's what quota additions are. If someone doesn't get a bid they didn't maximize their options--FACT. It's not rare. If you go to a house on pref your on that houses bid list. Even if your dead last. You'll be added on. End if story. That is the definition of a quota addition.

And you won't be unhappy in a house. They're all great. Give it a chance. Worst that happens is you don't like it--don't initiate and try again next year. But what about COB you ask? Honestly, most
Chapters won't do it. So many wonderful women rush these days and do maximize their options and do end up in house, so no room for you! Plus, if a chapter released you during formal WHY would they suddenly decide they like you? Why would you want to join a house that didn't like you at first? Do not think you're being "selfish" and taking someone's spot--it wasn't there's! It's yours! You're not taking anything away from them! That would be like it applying to more than one college because your backups will accept you and turn down others. Play the game for yourself. If other girls maximize they'll end up somewhere too!! It's how the system works! TRUST ME--I actually know what I'm talking about!

Excuse me, I am being confusing. I ended up cobing After not receiving a bid in the fall. Maybe rules have changed since I rushed to wear everyone gets a bid when they participate properly, or whatever bs they do now, but that's not how it was when I rushed.

Either way, this girl is so silly to tell anyone to just take the chance and if you end up hating it drop. That is so selfish and ridiculous. If you don't want to be somewhere, don't be a bi.tch and steal another girls spot.

And also, yes it is possible for houses who released you during formal to like you later on. After all, you're getting to know people via 3 to 10 minute conversations with no more than 5 members of nearly 300 person sororites in the span of a week. That is not very much getting to know if you ask me, so yeah, it is super possible to change the minds of chapters, seeing as I did it myself. Instead of only getting a week to know people and basing your entire perception of a woman in a week based on a mindless 5 minute conversation, you get months to do it as a cob or even a year to do it if you decide to rerush in the fall. So consider that.

@Xx - you are wrong. If a house invites you to pref, you MUST BE listed on their bid list. That's the rule. You may be the very last girl on the list, but they are not allowed to not list someone who attended pref.

This is why chapters have to accept quota additions. They can't refuse them because any girl who bid matched as a QA was on the bid list. You are just wrong, wrong, wrong.

And you are also wrong about PNM's not being guaranteed bids. All PNM's who list all pref houses on their MRABA are bid matched to one of those houses. Anyone who tells you they listed all their options and still got cut is lying.

Did the Pi Chis say that it is still possible to get cut from all 3 houses we went to today?

By: But why
by: GoGreek

Unfortunately, not all Pi Chi's are as educated about the back end of the rush process as they should be.

Mizzou is a RFM campus- that is, quota is set by the number of girls attending pref divided by the number of houses on campus. There are no bed quotas like at Indiana so there IS room in every house for all pref attendees who maximize their options and list all houses they pref on their pref card.

As pp stated, last year 37 girls were marched as QA's because they maximized their options. That is proof that the system works.

No houses are allowed to cut after pref. It's absolutely NOT allowed and all girls invited to a house's pref party WILL be listed on their bid list.

A minor technicality, and something that is EXTREMELY rare. But it is possible for a chapter to invite someone to preference and then leave them off their bid list. Generally, this would require an extreme situation (girl showing up for preference party drunk or stoned would do it), permission from the national headquarters, and discussion with Greek Life. But it can happen.

I imagine it happens fewer than 10 times a year in the entire nation. It truly is rare. But it is possible to do something so horribly stupid on preference that you are removed from the bid list for that organization.

Yeah but usually that girl will not receive a bid from anyone she has left since Panhellenic will remove her completely from eligibility. Again, so very rare and not really a factor.

The thing about xx I do agree with though is that girls shouldn't maximize their options if they don't see themselves in every single house on their list. Yeah, you may be guaranteed a bid, but there's a chance it could be from the one or two that you absolutely would not accept a bid from, you were just told to do it so you would receive A bid SOMEWHERE. Thing is, more girls than you actually obviously realize would rather not be greek than be in a widely recognized poor house. So those girls should not maximize their options if one of the houses on their list the would most certainly drop if they received a bid, as that is super rude like xx stated. Mostly to the women in the house who prepared to greet you on their lawn only to find you dropped their bid. I can imagine how heartbreaking that is.

SO, I hope any pnm reading this had a heart this afternoon and maximized their options if they could happily see themselves in every house on their list :)
