zeta house

by:

So Zeta is rebuilding their house, and saying the new house is "coming 2017". Does that mean that both DG and ZTA's pledge classes this year won't get to live in? That sucks...

Alabama has already rebuilt half of their houses. A new Zeta house is being built there this year. I just looked it up and they had a picture of what it will like. Wow.

Gotta look at the big picture. A lot of the mid-century houses can really stand improvement. As far as the gothic mansions, I'd be surprised they'd be torn down eventually - but you never know. Greek Town is really undergoing a face lift...

I think it's nice many chapters are rebuilding their houses, and making Greek town more modern. Although they're newer to Mizzou I think Sigma Kappa needs a complete new house. They can't fit about 75 girls in that house but they are Mizzou's largest chapter. They need to accommodate their growth, I kind of like how their house is different and if they do ever rebuild they should keep the shape in some respect. Kappa Delta, Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Phi and Kappa Alpha Theta could use some new houses. I know all done work to renevate, but they need to be revitalized for a new and fresh look

You never hear or see anything about inside GPhi. What does it look like or do you know any pictures?

From the inside, GPhi' house is nicely decorated but feels kinda small (it's a lot of smaller conjoined rooms I instead of a larger common space). I liked their staircase during my recruitment.

Also, I think it'll be awhile before SK will be able to completely rebuild. They already spent a lot of money fixing and converting their house from a fraternity to a sorority. Their Nationals probably still needs to wait for the house to settle in and establish itself before throwing down more money.

Even though SK's house doesn't hold that many girls, it is beautiful! I hope if they ever rebuild they keep a similar structure. The house itself is pretty big it just needs more bedrooms... Maybe an expansion would be helpful? Not sure they have room though. I think it's a very pretty house inside and out, and the main level has plenty of space!
I agree APhi should get a new house, it's kind of cramped on the main level and a bigger open space rather than a lot of small rooms would help that even if they can't make it much bigger because of the lot.
I'd like all Mizzous houses to be more cohesive, I love the brick with columns look and don't love the white or all brick houses... But that's just a personal preference! Would love to see some of the houses updated to a more SEC style or at least all a more similar style

The SK housing situation is actually really ideal for them because it's competitive for the girls to try and live in house. My roomie was an SK and she was attending non-mandatory events, extra study hours, etc, to accumulate points in order to get a spot in house. Plus they can always fill their house. Can't say the same for other houses, who have to force Juniors to live in house.

KD needs a new house. My God, they're the first house on the street and it's just falling apart. They've still got that graffiti from two years ago on the brick and it's just all bad. They should re-do the entire thing.

I like AXO's house. I love that it looks like a little ginger bread house. The german cottage vibe is really working for me. Plus it's really nice on the inside, nothing falling apart. I know it's not a "classic" house but it is adorable.

Theta's house is fine too. Maybe in the next few years but for now it's got that classic look. I think Pi Phi's house needs a new coat of paint. It's looking a little shabby.

As an incoming freshman, why would I pledge DG or Zeta if I was never able to live in the house (but would end up getting hit up for donations for years to come!) Living in the house seems like a big part of sorority life. Will they (DG & Zeta) honestly answer the many questions people have about this topic during Recruitment? Otherwise, I feel like it's a bait and switch!

If you really are a PNM, I'm sure your questions will be answered if you are considering either house. There's really nothing to be confused about. You will have a place to live next year - either another house or a group of apartments. It's unlikely that all of those details are finalized yet so you may not know the specifics during recruitment. You could still live in your junior or senior year if interested. You will not be hit up for donations but will probably pay more monthly as has been the case for other houses that have rebuilt or renovated. You will still be able to enjoy the existing house this year and have 2 years to enjoy the brand new house for a lot of events even if you don't live in. Everything else about being in a house will stay the same - sisterhood, homecoming, socials, philanthropy, etc... There's no need for a "bait and switch" because there will plenty of PNMs who are interested in these chapters. It's an exciting time for both DG and Zeta and you could be a part of it.

Ok but keep in mind, at some point, those houses needed to be rebuilt. Just like DU, at some point, they had to stop living in that disease ridden hell hole. So while yes it does suck for your pledge class, it won't suck for your pledge daughter and her pledge daughter and so on. At some point, you have to stop letting people live in the shi.tty house and some pledge class is gonna have to give. If that means nobody great pledges this year, fine, but DG and zeta could be powerhouses in the following years because of a new house. Girls love pretty new things. So just keep that in mind :)

As a future architect I am amused at how misinformed y'all are about the houses in Greektown. There are four that are the most architecturally significant, and the oldest: AXO. Kappa, ADPi and, best of all, PiPhi. All qualify (and some are on) the National Register of Historic Places. A house with such a designation cannot be torn down. The least architecturally impressive, dating to the late '60s, are Theta and Gamma Phi. They are pretty houses, but have no architectural integrity. I also would put DG. TriDelt and Alpha Phi in that category, as well as the old ChiO house before it was razed. The SK and KD houses actually at one time were outstanding examples of Mid Century Modern, until they became "remuddled" when those houses determined it would be better for them to have a traditional instead of modernist look. ChiO, of course, is an expensive architectural abomination, but it is new and clean and its members seem to love it.

What about the last three - Phi Mu, ZTA, Sigma?

I think Zeta is the same era at Theta and Gamma Phi. Pretty enough, but not architecturally significant. I really don't know much about the other two because they are not among the older sororities on campus and there isn't much written history about their houses. I think Phi Mu's house used to be a fraternity house at one point, wasn't it? And who can share something about Sigma. I don't mean to imply that most of the sorority houses on this campus aren't pretty or special. But many are not historically significant.

Zeta has a rich history on this campus and has a strong alumni network. I'm not surprised to hear about a new house because, contrary to the crap you read on this website, Zeta is thriving.

I'm sad DG is tearing down... its such an old and beautiful house. Also, they have such a small plot of land, Im afraid a bigger house will feel cramped and squeezed between chio and aphi.
Speaking of aphi, I know that their house dates back to the 20s.... so again, it would be sad to tear it down, but it does need some modernizing. I hope they go the ADPI route and add on rather than the chio route of tearing down a historic house for a new modern house.
No word on what zetas will look like, but as their house isn't that historic, I think it will be fine and probably better than what they currently have.
Lots of changes coming!

I'm not a DG or a Zeta but I am genuinely excited for both houses and the impact it will have on Greektown. I'm hoping that other houses ( especially mine - lol) will feel the need to rebuild or significantly remodel their houses to keep competitive on this campus. I'm not sure how recruitment will be this year for these 2 houses but next year they will definitely be a top choice for many.
