dg = no house + big bills for new pledges

by:

So what is the deal, for real?? I want to join a sorority in which I can live in a sorority HOUSE. That's a huge part of the experience. If they are tearing down the DG house, and as a Freshman, I'll never live in a true DG house but will be expected to foot the bill for it, I want to know NOW before I get myself into a horrible, expensive situation.

As an incoming freshman, if you pledge DG, you won't be living in the DG house - maybe some rented frat house or an apartment. They are trying to downplay this, but honestly one of the best things about joining a sorority is the brief year you get to live in house. Plus, you'll be paying for this new construction for years to come!

If everyone has your "it's all about me" attitude no one will ever be able to get a new house. Our houses are getting old and large campuses like Alabama have already rebuilt a lot of theirs. Building a new house or severely renovating one takes time so unfortunately there will be a group of girls that don't get to live in the old or new DG house. Living in a fraternity house or apartment complex as a group could be just as much fun if you have a positive attitude about it. You could still live in as an upperclassmen or officer and will be able to enjoy a brand new house for other events even if you don't live in. The sisterhood isn't about a building and it's for much more than four years. There are many who have come before you that sacrificed for you and many that will come after that will benefit from your sacrifice and be able to enjoy the new house. Make your decision based on the girls you meet and not on the building and certainly not based on what the haters will be saying to try to hurt DG's recruitment this year.

Tons of fraternities are building new houses. DU rebuilt theres and went a year without one. The house doesn't mean much at all - it's just a bedroom, you'll find another common place to hang; everyone does this eventually.

Living in a sorority is hands down the best part about being in one

Something to consider. That does take away from the experience and I only have 4 years.

bottom line- if you pledge DG this year you WILL NOT live in house. If you don't care, great! if you love DG and want to pledge them anyway, awesome! but you PNMS deserve to know this information before hand.

At least you will have your sisterhood. Or the one hope is you get the DU house that was designed for a bunch of tools.

Im sure DG WILL talk to PNMS about this. Im sure they have a plan. Houses can go up in a year! And building projects get stalled sometimes too. Plus, I'm sure they'll probably have a temp house in the meantime! Tri Sigma did while theirs was being built in the first place, and Chi O relocated for a year. They still got a live-in experience! The house itself really doesn't matter that much!

DG has had this house paid for for a long time. Building a new one DOES NOT mean dues will be more expensive. Anyone trying to discourage girls from pledging because they won't get to experience the house is pathetic and needs to focus on building up their own sorority more than they tear down another. Having brand new, gorgeous houses is only IMPROVING Mizzou Greek Life. The girls will be able to live and bond together, just not in this house. But how great will it be to be the group that gets to be the first in the new house?

PLEASE -you know not living in the same house is a HUGE negative. The fact that DG is downplaying this is misleading. If you pledge DG, have fun living in some random apartment, foreign student dorm or a scary house on East Campus. And enjoy your chapter meetings in the Engineering lecture hall.

Please poll your pledge class on bid day and see how many girls cut DG just because we're renovating. Hope all your hard work pays off for you, really. We'll be HAPPY in our sorority without speaking badly of another in order to get girls in our brand new, gorgeous house.

Chi-O just built a new house. What were the effects on their chapter the year they didn't have a house? Is it a one year effect or does it effect two pledge classes? The ones pledging who couldnt live in and the class who pledged the next year that had to meet in a building for chapter? Did they get meals or were they on their own?

They had a house during their rebuild. They lived in the house that is now the fraternity ATO. Same goes for Sigma. They lived in that house when they colonized and moved out once their new house was built (that's when ChiO moved in). DG will be the first house to tear down without solid plans for relocation of their members.

Actually, Chi O didn't have solid plans for the rebuild year. The girls who rushed that year were told it was unknown where they would live as sophomores. They joined anyway.

That's not true. I'm a XO, we were shown plans for the new house when we rushed. Don't lie.

The girls who got to live in new Chi O were shown blueprints during 2012 rush. But the girls who lived in ato rushed during 2011, and were told they didn't know where they would be living the next year.

If the DG's are getting a new house it will make their chapter stronger in the end. When sororities get new houses they most likely will be prepared to put your entire pledge class in either a bunch of appartments together, or if theres another house on campus not being used they sometimes live there. It will make both DG and Zeta very desirable after they're done with new houses. So try not to let it affect your decision too much because everyone rebuilds eventually

They haze, they ignore girls who aren't from large STL or KC private schools, they always have 12 - 15 pledges drop each year and Nationals watches them like a hawk. Throw in no house next year - what a disaster!

Okay "DG Trainwreck" girl calm down and work on your own house because honestly I don't think I would want to be in a house where there are girls like you who come on here to bash other houses right before recruitment in hopes of getting the girls that otherwise would have pledged a house you bashed. They don't haze and if they did you know full well they would be kicked off by now. So calm down. A good new pledge class and a beautiful new house will make them a great house again and thats obviously threatening to your house. Its a threat to mine as well, but I'm confident enough in my sisters and our reputation that we will still remain a good house no matter where DG is on the tiers. Try to be a little classier.

also- every house has to get a new house eventually. If they don't with the growing numbers of Greek life, no house with be able to have room for all their girls. They're most likely doing this along with Zeta, so in the end they can accommodate their sisters for a long time. Smart move. I hope that when your house needs to get work done, people like you aren't all over this site trying to bash YOU.
