costs

by:

Please no mean replies but like many other pnm the deal with my parents is that I have to pay my new member fees myself. I just wanted to hear from some real members from Kappa Delta, Alpha chi omega, tri delt. Is it true that these houses will run me 1,000 or less for my first semester?

No, most houses are goign to be above 1000 for the first semester because you have your sorority dues PLUS your new member dues. At Least for my house. For me my first semster unded up being 1500 an dsecond was 990. I hope that helps! Don't let costs discourage you, I also pay for all of my sorority dues and it all turns out okay! Good luck with recruitment!!

Yes, KD does do payment plans. You don't have on first semester but can sign up after. But you don't pay the 1000+ all at once, you kind of pay it as you go so one month it could be like 400 then another 550. If that makes sense. After the first semester you can sign up for one though.

you can find all this out during recruitment and in an online booklet that PHA should have put out. It also may be in the recruitment guide that was mailed to you, can't remember

for those wondering about payment plans, every house has a monthly bill, you don't pay the $1000+ in one payment and I'm sure if you talked to the treasurer in the chapter they could help you work something out.

I'm in one of the houses listed above and my first semster was $1200. It went down to $900 after that. Living in house sophomore year was $6000 (cheaper than the dorms). However, we have made renovations since I was an underclassman and the numbers may have changed a bit.

I do know that delta, Gphi, axo are among the cheaper sorority dues. I would assume KD would be in that mix but only because they haven't made any renovations or changes to their house.

I was also concerned with dues when I went through recruitment. I mentioned it at pi phi and was cut the next day, even though I told them that I wanted to pay the dues, even though my parents are well off and could easily afford it. They didn't like the idea that I wanted to have a job and pay my own way i guess.

Doubtful. I am a PiPhi and pay my own way. Lots of scholarships, too. And I'm not the only PiPhi in that situation. Can't imagine that's why you were cut. Once you are a member of a house the treasurer will be accommodating about how you pay. This really isn't something to discuss during rush when actives want to get to know you, not your finances. We pretty much assume that if someone chooses to go through rush they can afford it. To ask about dues/payments is pretty presumptuous. Save it until after you are a member.

Yeah it was really disappointing because pi phi was one of my favorite houses and towards the end of the week when I asked the question about finances the girl I was paired with completely did a 180 , went stone-faced, and was really stand offish the rest of our time. That was the only thing I could see that would have prevented me from being asked back the next day. The rest of my time there was great. I still like pi phi a lot and have good friends that are in pi phi. I mean no harsh words against pi phi! All I meant to get across is exactly what you stated. I do not recommend talking about finances with any house during recruitment because it makes things awkward. I feel like because I asked, the girl I was paired with got completely turned off and scored me low that day.

Which house were you in?

Good advice. There is no embarrassment in being concerned about finances. Many of us are because money doesn't grow on trees. But it is a little off-putting to ask questions like that because it assumes you think you will get a bid. I also would stay away from questions like "will I be able to live in the house sophomore year" and any others that make it sound as if you think you are certain to be asked to join.

KD's is a lttle bit more expensive this year because they just redid their formal room and made some other indoor changes. But they are still one of the cheapter houses. I do know that Tri Delt and GPhi are two of the cheapest houses.
All of the information is given to you during recruitment! So don't stress about it yet, wait until you have all of the information :)

which houses do payment plans the FIRST semester

By: Gphi or tridelt
by: Probs None

I'm pretty sure most houses do not do payment plans first semster. I know my house it takes a while to process the payment plans applications and it has to go through a process that takes about a month. Since PNMs don't even get a bid until school starts I'm pretty sure houses don't do it because it's not possible. Of course there may be a few who do and that is something to ask them. If there are financial problems you need to ask and they will help you out!
