sophomore

I am a sophomore and rushing in a couple weeks. I have over a 3.8 GPA and I would say I'm attractive and good at conversation. What is the likelihood of getting into a good house?

What exactly do you mean by a "good house?"

Focus on your recruitment week and less on tiers, which really don't exist. Be greek if you want to be greek, but try not to assume you are better than women who are already greek.

There really are no bad houses. And if you are aiming only for what some consider "top tier," you might be disappointed at how few sophomores they take. I'm thinking it's time to adjust your expectations. It might be more about who considers you a top prospect, not which house you deem worthy.

Activities? Leadership? Honors? Awards? Volunteer activities? They all are important. And every house has girls who excel in these areas. It's much more than GPA.

Are there lots of houses that won't take sophomores or juniors?

I think all houses take at least a few sophomores, but they have to be outstanding. Many, if not most, houses don't take juniors. Considering most people only get to live in the house one year (the year after rush), why would you want to live in the house senior year with a bunch of 19- and 20-year-olds?

With my major I have 3 years left and I don't see why someone who transfers shouldn't get to go Greek just because they didn't start there as freshman. I would hope if they didn't take upperclassmen they wouldn't allow us to register.

There are houses that take juniors, so no one was misrepresenting anything. But in my opinion the freshman 18-year-old mentality is very different from someone who, technically, is an upperclassman.

But you are saying the majority won't? Don't girls drop out, fail to pay dues, or study abroad? Wouldn't that mean they would have more open spots for upperclassmen? I might be misunderstood so please correct me if i'm wrong!

no one can predict the future. Go through recruitment and see what happens. Better that you try if you really want to be in a house then regret it forever because you didn't try.
