do sororities only choose skinny/thin girls?

by: nervous

I'm a PNM and I'm really nervous about not getting a bid because of my weight. I could probably stand to lose about 20 lbs but I know I can't do that before rush. Does this limit my chances? Please don't come bombarding in with criticisms or telling me I'm naive, this is an actual worry for me. I really like PiPhi, Alpha Phi, ADPi, Chi O, and Alpha Chi Omega. I don't know if thats relevant information or not.

Getting into a sorority is based off so much more than your size. Tog et into a house there isn't a rule that you have to be rail thin. Many of th egirls who get into those houses you listed are not rail thin, as for other houses too. Yes, there will be super skinny girls rush and get into those houses, but there's also skinny girls who don't get into a house or don't get their first choices. There's no way for anyone to know what sorority will take you or release you based on your size, because in reality the girls in the sorority are looking for more than what size you are. Don't worry about your weight and be confident!

Honestly weight does make a diff at some houses. You can probably lose 10 lbs before rush and look and feel more confident. Cut those carbs and start walking!

Okay I know there is a stereotype about sororities that all members have to be skinny and perfect, well that is not true! Once you go through recruitment look around you at all 300+ members they all are different sizes, hair color, body type, and different people. But every single one of them is beautiful! Just be confident in yourself and you will find someplace that makes you feel like the most beautiful person inside and out. I have had issues with my weight during college and it sucks. But what my sorority has taught me is to love myself and you will find that!

You will find that at some of the houses known for partying you will be talking to members who are not slim. That's because as you pound beers your freshman year the scale really goes up. So you might go through rush very thin but you will be judged by people who aren't, and they aren't necessarily hypocrites. Second, I've seen some of the prettiest girls I remember during rush in lecture halls and they have turned into complete slobs. They look like they just rolled out of bed and didn't even brush their hair, so the girls who take a little pride in their appearance stand apart no matter how much they weigh. And, finally, the prettiest girl I ever knew in my own house was a beauty from California who had dark, thick hair, a real sense of style, and amazingly distinctive makeup, including red lips that were never in need of refreshing. And she was far from thin. So the moral of the story is take pride in your appearance and develop a sense of style and you will be just fine.

Sororities want you for your personality I've seen heavier set girls top houses like Chi O and Pi phi, and nearly all the mid tier houses and all the bottom tier houses. Tri Delt and Gphi I haven't seen heavier girls but that doesn't mean they aren't open to it. A lot of bigger girls are pretty and Tri Delt and Gphi want that. Moral of the story. No sorority will drop you for something so trivial as weight

If you've never seen a heavy girl at TriDelt or GPhi among 300+ people, I think you can assume they aren't open to it. They are the two most superficial houses on this campus. They are not interested in diversity of any type, from hair color to skin color to body type to geographical location. And they both are not exactly known for brains and they are the cliquiest of houses. But, hey that's what some people like, I guess.

Well, dropping someone for their weight happens all the time. Let's not pretend it doesn't.

Gphi has larger girls. Trust me. Specific example - girl in my class wore Gphi letters all the time and she was neither cute or thin. Not trying to be mean to her, but not all 300+ girls in a single
Sorority are going to fit the sorority stereotype
