Out of curiosity, what's the chances sororities are already looking at my resume and social media and know who I am already?!

Any chapter you are a legacy to, or have submitted a rec letter to knows who you are and has probably looked at your social media. I know for sure my chapter starts looking at PNMs as soon as recruitment sign ups opens and they learn names of girls, etc. also my chapter puts prioroity on the girls with rec letters/legacies and review them as their stuff is submitted. Most chapters start looking at PNMs in July or early August! It just depends.

i don't have a rec form for every chapter (I have most though). Is that going to hurt me? Should I try to find friends of friends who could write a rec form? I don't want to hurt my chances at any house but don't want to obsess and bother people who don't really know me really.

It depends on what houses you have recs to already! If you want to share that I could give you advice on which ones is a good idea. In a perfect world it would be good for you to have one or two for every house. But that's a lot so just get as many as you can! I only have 6 recs and 2 of them were both to GPhi, and I got into a great house that I love!

I had 2 to Gphi and I got cut from them after the 2nd round, which I was okay with. I'm not sure if the refs helped or not but don't stress about having them!

I had no recs and am in a good house, never knew you needed them. If you weren't on here, why would you think or even know about recs?

By: Don't worry

If any member of your family was in a sorority they know about recs and they should have told you. It's not really a secret. Sororities have been using them for more than a century as a way to find out more that superficial stuff about potential new members (who used to be called rushees in the good old days). If you didn't have them, good for you. But it's hard to get into my house without one because we want to know more about someone than the official Panhel form asks for.

I think it's pretty likely sororities are checking out your social media already. If members of your high school are in a house and know you are going through rush, your name probably appears on a pre-rush list. And, of course, if you have had alums do recs for you your social media has been checked out. That's why months ago people on this site warned PNMs to delete the inappropriate stuff.

Always get recs if you can. Two preferred. My sister went through rush a couple years ago at UGA and it was blistering for her. We are in CA and it was difficult not being from the South, let alone Georgia. Our mom reached out to everyone she could. Some were easy, some took a connection. A couple like Phi Mu were impossible as they are not out West. But she got them and it helped a lot. She tells me it shows effort.

They look at them. Sometimes it really doesn't matter. She was cut by 5-6 houses for not being Southern as they take only a couple out of their comfort zone. Then she was told she was going to be in a certain house after the last night - final three. So she listed them one and ended up in option 2. Great thing is she said she couldn't be in a better house for her and the first house is irrelevant on campus. They told her she was in to get their numbers up that last night.

So my point is get those recs, the house you end up is probably a great fit and don't believe everything you hear. This will minimize your stress and get you where you should be.

By the way, I just happen to be trolling the boards for myself when I go to college next year and saw this. I am typing this as I talk to her so this is her advise, not mine. She wishes you and all luck and have fun.
