sophomore rush

by: sophomore

I rushed last year as a freshman, but things didn't go as planned and i ended up not being in a sorority. i really want to do it again this year but i am nervous that the sororities won't like the fact that i have already rushed once. do they know if you have previously rushed?(besides just recognizing you from the year before) and if so, do they know the reason behind me not joining a sorority? (ex. dropping rush, didn't get a bid, suicided, etc etc) i know some houses won't keep you around simply because you are a sophomore, but will it put me at even more of a disadvantage if i have already rushed?

Yes and no. If you have made friends freshmen year that are in sororities it will help because will be pulling for you. If houses cut you last year they will probably cut you again. If a house knows that you cut them last year they will probably cut you because they know you weren't interested. I would go in being very honest about your reason if it isn't super personal. Like say you dropped out because you weren't sure about being greek, then explain how you saw what being greek actually meant during the year and you want to be involved now that you know there is real sisterhood and more than parties. Or if you suicided or didn't like your options, be honest that you regret your decision and made a huge mistake ESPECIALLY at the houses you could have joined but dropped over. It will be harder as a sophomore so telling people up front can only help your chances.

thank you for the advice! so going into rush, all of the sororities will pretty much know that i'm re-rushing and the reason behind me not being in a house? its not anything personal or bad, i just don't want to put too much info out there!

If you don't try, you will regret it. So go ahead, but keep your expectations low. There are some disadvantages with your situation, but you also are older and wiser. What have you got to lose?
