statistics about recruitment & dropping
by: stats
Sorority recruitment is designed to place the maximum number of women in houses. "Quota" is a function of the women interested in greek life, not an arbitrary number of how many each house can hold.
If 2000 women have the grades, meet the membership standards of all houses, and are willing to keep an open mind about what house they will end up in, 2000 women will end up in a house, even if that means pledge classes of 130+.
In 2014, 1977 women registered for formal recruitment. Of that number, 1365 received bids.
Less than 50 were released from all houses, probably because of grades or some situation in their background that made them not a good candidate for greek life.
The other 550+ women all chose to drop out of recruitment. They didn't like the houses left on their schedule. They didn't list all houses after preference.
If you attend all the parties you are invited to, and rank all the houses you attend during preference round, you will almost certainly end up with a bid at the end of the week.
I don't particularly want 130+ new members in my house. The numbers are already overwhelming! But I don't think it's fair for PNMs to think they are competing for a limited number of "spots." Yes, you are competing for a limited number of spots in any given house. But not across the system as a whole. The system will allow as many of you who are qualified and want to be greek. It's your choice to accept the houses that invite you back, or to drop and not be greek.
