quick question about rushing, any help would be gr

by:

So i didn't get the greatest grades in high school, but I'm excited for a new fresh start and to really focus on my grades at mizzou. Therefor, I feel as though my grades from the last four years are not a reflection of who I am at the moment. I heard that you need a certain GPA to rush, and that a transcript was needed. How important is this in the rushing process, is it necessary, and can it be overlooked? Thanks

When the recruitment sign ups are released there is a grade warning. Yes you do need a transcript to verify your GPA. PHA gives you a breakdown based on green, red or yellow. If your GPA is in the green then you shouldn't worry about grades, if it is in the yellow then it is iffy. Houses like Theta and Chi O who put a lot of emphasis on grades most likely would cut you and with other houses it's a toss up between your grades and what you bring to the table. Then there's the red zone. If you are in the red zone then there is a warning that your grades are low and you probably won't get a chance to be in a house. Sometimes houses make exceptions but not often. You didn't say your GPA so I can't tell you where you would fall. If you have above a 3.0 you are at least in the yellow but if it's below that I'm not sure. If you do decide to rush and an active asks about high school, mention that better grades is a goal for you at mizzou.

First of all, your high school GPA is most decidedly a reflection of who you are at the moment, and will be until first semester college grades come out. If you struggled in high school, you likely won't have an easy time of it in college. Why don't you forget about rush, work on your grades and if your gpa improves, rush as a sophomore. If your grades are below a 3.0, you are going to be cut by a lot of houses anyway. Seems grades should be your priority for all sorts of reasons, not your social life.

Your grades are a reflection of you, whether you have made recent changes or not. Especially if you don't have a substantial reason behind your grades, like a major medical condition or something similar. If you just have bad grades, then be prepared to be released from all houses, or most houses, after the first or second round.

My house has a 3.2 cutoff and there has to be an exceptional reason to take someone below that. Yet according to rumor on this site, we are a "dumb" house with no standards. EVERY house has grade standards and will automatically release anyone not meeting those standards.
